How American!! Fighting with the Insurance company over dental coverage.
We have Cigna dental coverage. That is our 'choice' you know.... that choice we are told is so great that we have in this country. it's Cigna or nothing. thanks for the choice. But anyway, I have a 3 and a half year old that needed fillings. our normal dentist didn't want to do it, so I took Ashley over to the pediatric dentist. this dentist does not take many insurances though, so we had to pay up front and be reimbursed by our insurance company. The first filling, it was one... was $180. The dentist office hasn't put that one through yet. but the second one... that was two teeth... that was $270... out of pocket.

Now, fine. I understand that we chose to take her to this dentist because as a pediatric dentist we had heard raves about him... and they seemed very kid friendly. and i didn't want ashley to fear the dentist. Don't get me started on how it went. I am here discussing the insurance. Apparently, the insurance won't pay for the nitrous that the dentist used. they wouldn't pay for it for a THREE year old. Also, even though bob's plan says they pay 80%, that is not OUR plan... as per the rep he talked to this morning. they only pay 70%, no matter what our actual plan says. So they paid $133 out of $270. which , i guess, is better than us having to pay all of it. Getting that check and the feeling I had kind of reminded me of when we went to the casino and played the slots. you put $10 and get a thrill when you get $2 back. uggh.

1. I blew off my dental plan years ago. I go to dental colleges.
SUNY farmingdale on Long Island is a good one. Now I know that is a major distance for you but maybe there is one in your area.

I now live in Texas and get my dental work done through the UT dental school in San Antonio. Saves me major bucks.
