Sen. Cornyn shuns Limbaugh and Gingrich, calls it "terrible" to accuse Judge Sotomayor of racism

Sen. John Cornyn tonight repudiated the allegation that Judge Sonia Sotomayor is "racist" - and he distanced himself in no uncertain terms from the conservative opinion leaders who leveled that charge against the Supreme Court nominee, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

"I think it's terrible. This is not the kind of tone that any of us want to set when it comes to performing our constitutional responsibilities of advice and consent," Cornyn told NPR's "All Things Considered."
The racism allegation - and efforts to pressure Sotomayor to withdraw from consideration for the court - stem from Sotomayor's remark that as a Latina, she would bring a superior perspective to some cases than a white male judge.

Asked by NPR if he's worried that comments like Limbaugh and Gingrich's harm the confirmation debate, Cornyn said: "Neither one of these men are elected Republican officials. I just don't think it's appropriate and I certainly don't endorse it. I think it's wrong."

The interview offered a preview of Sunday's ABC "This Week" appearance. NPR spoke tonight with both Cornyn and Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer - the same lineup booked for George Stephanopoulos' show on Sunday.

Actually, he's the same old repulsive creep he's always been, but it's interesting to see that the idiot can count. He knows that repukes in TX desperately need the latino vote and that the racist crap coming out of prominent wingnuttos hurts the possibility of ever getting a sizable segment of that vote.

1. Aside from Tancredo (and a few others) the politicians will leave the sliming to the noise machine
and in the end she will get 75 or 80 votes

Cornyn says this to NPR which his base doesn't listen to.

3. I don't think she'll get that many votes- more like 64
but you're spot on about Cornyn. He's playing both sides.

8. Agreed
However, all it takes is for one DUer to pass it on to a dittohead and that dittohead calling Rush to report on Cornyn.

4. Cornyn won't make it to the next election without first begging
forgiveness from Lord Rush. He'll probably be on the air today.

6. I wish people here would just show some self-restraint
when it comes to wishing people murdered, executed, assasinated, etc. it's one of the biggest taboos on the site- with good reason.

9. I agree with you
Wishing somebody to go to jail, or stand trial for war crimes, is a heck of a lot different than wishing somebody be put before a firing squad.

10. I liked the part in the npr interview where the reporter reads back
to cornyn a quote from alito where he says his Italian background gave him a different perspective on things when he judges. it was beautiful to hear old boy get caught in his own crap.

16. He had a complete "PWNED" moment in that interview, when
the interviewer replayed the comment by Sam Alito about how the racism and discrimination suffered by his own family members played a role in influencing his thought process on related cases!!!

19. Cornyn to be on Rush Limbaugh show.
You would not be able to see him through or even hear him since he will under the desk giving Rush a BJ.
