I see lots of promises that "employers cannot deny insurance for preexisting conditions" .....
.... but what about the insurers themselves? Does anyone know if any of the current plans will, specifically, disallow the preexisting condition exclusion clauses from health care policies?

1. It's all in what coverage the employer pays for
My employer's plans specifically will cover all pre-existing conditions, and we were told that upfront at our orientation.

2. It's the insurers that get to deny for pre-existing but only

if the insured has been non covered for over thirty days. Then I believe it's an 18 month wait. (Depending on the employers policy.)

edit to try to clarify

3. Thanks ...... but that's the current rule, correct?
I was wondering what is in the various plans being hammered out in DC.

5. Yeah, just enough time for the pre-existing condition to get worse.
Or kill the person.

God, I hate insurance companies.

6. You're correct about it depending on the insurer!
My employer covers employees with pre-existing conditions from their first day of employment. However, my previous employer's insurance carrier required either a certificate of insurance or a 12 month waiting period for pre-existing conditions.

7. Again, it all depends - I have to buy my own health insurance,
and I had bypass surgery in 2003. I found NO health insurers will insure anyone with previous chest, heart, and/or vascular surgery except for Blue Cross. They wanted $800 a month for very basic coverage, just for me, which is more than I can afford on my pension.

I have a state backed health insurance (PA) that gives me more than the Blue Cross would for about 1/4th the price, so it can be done.....

They are all greedy crooks, and I have no doubt they will try like hell to weasel out of any agreements they don't like.
