Ohio gay anti discrimination bill finally gets wide support

"COLUMBUS — In Ohio, it is perfectly legal to fire an employee because he is gay or to evict a lesbian couple from an apartment because they’re gay.

For the past eight years, gay rights advocates have tried to get state lawmakers to outlaw such discrimination, but the various bills have died in legislative committees.

This time, Equality Ohio, a non-profit, statewide gay rights group, is confident the Equal Housing and Employment Act will be adopted in the Democrat-controlled House, where 27 members have signed on as co-sponsors."

1. The ugliness here cannot be understated

I've been in Ohio since Dec 2000 and I've made a number of friends that are "not straight" and therefore considered sub-human here in Ohio. Its disgusting. People I know... My friends... Great people... Great Americans, forced to live in fear that the wrong someone might find out who they are in love with and lose their jobs... their homes... its so fucking wrong I can't even express the anger I feel.
