'Greed does not engender philanthropy in most people. It only leads to more greed.'

1. Because the poor know how it is
You would have a very hard time finding someone in the top tax brackets who had any concept of what it might be like to live on the couches of a few friends and living off pasta and ketchup packets. Some might be very nice people, but they just lack the experience needed to truly empathize with those in need.

2. The question with "statistics" like this is how and what you count. Kind of like the
"fact" that cons are "more charitable" than libs.

But, what is counted as charity is taken from tax returns. So, all donations to a church are counted as "charity" when the majority of those funds simply goes to church operations and other religious purposes - not real charity at all.

Before we jump on the greedy wealthy, we should look at how this "research" was done.

I remember an early stat book - "How to Lie with Statistics" by Darrell Huff. The "facts" can be fitted to whatever truth you want to prove.

3. and much of the giving of the wealthy goes to their own tax-free foundations,
which they use to provide investment cash for projects which benefit them, steer public policy, provide jobs for their relatives, & gift jobs on those they wish to influence.

yes, let's look closely.

5. Not only that
but most of the time they don't give a fuck that anybody knows they are giving.

They just do it because that's what is right.
The rich make sure their donations are engraved in giant fonts on engraved plaques, announced in the local paper and award ceremonies.
