Bush: ‘It’s a liberating feeling’ that I am no longer president.
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/05/22/bush-liberating-president/

New Mexico’s Roswell Daily Record reports that during a speech to graduating local high school students, President Bush “expressed few regrets” about the policies he enacted as president. At the same time, however, Bush said that he’s glad he doesn’t he’s not in the position to make policy anymore. “I no longer feel that great sense of responsibility that I had when I was in the Oval Office,” he said. “And frankly, it’s a liberating feeling.” Bush also remarked on how his life is “back to normal”:

Bush told the soon-to-be-graduates that it was a strange experience walking his dog Barney in his new neighborhood after he moved back to Texas.

“I realized this was the first time I’d been walking in a neighborhood for 14 years,” he said. “It’s not all that hard, by the way. You take one step, and then you take another.”

It was the first time Barney had ever been in an ordinary neighborhood, and Bush had to stop when the dog took liberties with a neighbor’s yard.

“And there I was, former President of the United States of America, with a plastic bag on my hand,” he recalled. “Life is returning back to normal.”

Yeah, lots of Americans live in $2,000,000 houses in exclusive gated communities.

12. yes, he knew all along he was totally unqualified & incompetent,
but he was told he wouldn't have to think very much, all his lines would be fed to him, and he could swagger around with the title "President of the United States." I think he was told he WOULD do it, and really had no choice, but the perks and the power to wage war wherever/whenever he wanted and destroy or uplift those he chose outweighed his certain knowledge that he was not comfortable with the charade.

For the rest of us poor schleppers it's going to be a long, hard upward crawl--assuming it ever happens.

11. That's one of the few things he's ever said that I think is actually sincere.
He didn't actually enjoy being "The Decider Guy" during his second term, and probably not during his first term either. Of course Cheney was the REAL Decider Guy...Chimpy was just a figurehead.

16. Like A Child Walking Away From A Mess...
A spoiled, petulant child in specific. He knows he doesn't have to clean it up or even look at it. He had his fun, turned the country inside out and now it's up to others to put things back where they belong. Of course he's relieved, no one is making fun of him these days. He gets to watch others struggle to figure out how to clean up...and probably is snickering. He sure showed us.

27. I would love to know the styles and content of the various pressures put on W
by Wheezing Dick to give Libby a full pardon -- I think Cheney convinced Libby to go ahead and take the fall in the Plame case because getting Libby pardoned was a sure thing, no matter how apparently damning his conviction.

I think it never crossed Cheney's mind that Tiny W might disobey an order.

Libby did Cheney's bidding, and is now a convicted felon for life. I think Cheney has just enough "sense of honor" to feel bad about that.
