Did Obama And Granholm Meet?
Source: CBS News

Did the President meet with Governor Jennifer Granholm about the Supreme Court nomination?

Long rumored to be on the president’s short-list of potential nominees to replace Justice David Souter on the Supreme Court, all eyes on were on the Michigan governor today as she made an appearance at the White House.

While the governor and Harvard Law grad was there to talk about new fuel economy and emissions standards for cars and light trucks, the speculation was that she would get face-time with President Obama to talk about the Supreme Court vacancy.

The question today is, did President Obama meet with the governor about the job? . . .

3. It will be Granholm, and she will be a great pick.
I think it will be the finest move yet of his presidency. She will be there for the next quarter century, and will be of the caliber of Warren and Brennan.

5. I agree
I'm from Michigan and think she'd be a magnificent choice. She can't run for Governor again because of term limits and she was born in Canada, so the Presidency is out. She would be perfect. She'd also kick Clarence Thomas' sorry behind all over the chambers!

9. I'm just anxious to know who he will pick
I'm a big supporter of Granholm and I think she will be picked. If she is selected, it could have a big effect on MI and the 2010 election.

8. Because she is Earl Warren incarnate, and that's what Obama wants.
She has every quality he is looking for in a justice. No, she's not Hispanic, but other than that, she has it all. She is brilliant, 50, former prosecutor, state Attorney General, and governor of one of our largest states.

Plus, she clerked for Damon Keith, one of our most brilliant U.S. appellate judges in American history.

If I know our president, I know this: She's the pick.

10. How many Catholics would that make on the SC?
Let's see -- Scalia, Kennedy, Alito, Roberts and then there is Thomas who was raised Catholic and converted to an evangelical religion. Souter was one of only two Protestants on the Court.

I realize that there is not supposed to be any religious test for political office, but the predominance of Catholics if Granholm is appointed would be very strange. The Court used to be predominantly Protestant.

This is significant because the Catholic Church is an autocratic anti-democratic institution that has been slow to recognize women's rights of various crimes. Catholics may not be aware of it, but in my opinion and experience, it would be better to have some diversity in the religious backgrounds of the members of the Court. And this is true even if Governor Granholm is not an extremely religious person. That's not the issue. We need not only diversity in terms of race and color, but also religion. Stevens would be the only remaining protestant on the Court and he is quite elderly.

12. She use to be a Presbyterian
She converted to Catholicism when she married her husband.

I don't think the Catholic church likes her much. If you google her name and catholic church, you'll find articles regarding her support of choice, stem cell research, and gay rights that makes the church angry.
