One of the many reasons DADT pisses me off.
I am still waiting for someone to explain to me why it's bad for morale for a straight dude to have to shower with a gay guy/fellow soldier who might see his penis from a reasonable distance ... but as a woman in the army my option for medical care was a straight dude/fellow soldier doing pap smears on me.

Can anyone help me out on that?

1. Because YOUR discomfort isn't their problem?
But they can't have MEN being discomfited, right?

I too think DADT is bullshit, and this makes a strong case for one of the reasons why.

2. My personal opinion is this country doesn't deserve to demand gay people to sacrifice for it...
... until they are allowed to get married.

3. I agree with that
but as long as we don't have a draft and there are economic incentives to join (at least on the surface), they should have a right to serve if they want.

Mind you, I'd be the first one in their face doing a counter-recruitment pitch, but that's unrelated to being entitled to the same options as every other person who meets enlistment standards.

4. I agree they should be allowed to serve if they want to.

However, I also think they SHOULDN'T want to.

This country has not (yet) earned the right to ask for the service of gay men and women.

And they sure shouldn't have the right to DRAFT gay men and women, until they are allowed equal protection under the law.

Why should they take an oath to protect and defend The Constitution, when that Constitution isn't protecting and defending THEM?

My own, personal opinion.
