Now this another reason to dislike republicans. IT IS the MINORITY that is driving this. Yes, minorities have to be protected, but at this point this is beyond protection.

1. Just talked to my son - he voted at 9AM and was the 3rd voter at his precinct
Doesn't seem like much of a turnout.

2. What polls?
And how did the Republicans get no-one to turn up when you did? Were they going round, stirring up apathy?

12. I'm assuming the OP is talking about the statewide special elections in California
Turnout is expected to be very low. There are 6 measures on the ballot, all of which progressive voters are likely to say no to. And yes, the polling place was empty, even at lunchtime, so I spent some time joking around with the volunteers after casting my wonderful progressive votes. :)

22. Not my original - and now I find, maybe a misquote
Now Oxford has come up with the opposite of its celebrated Dictionary of Quotations - What They Didn't Say: A Book of Misquotations. I suppose it might be useful. You could want to find out who said something, look it up, and find out that they didn't.
...
The misquote that still annoys me is Willie Whitelaw's alleged charge against the Labour government of 1974: "They are going around the country stirring up apathy." I suppose it is slightly funnier than what he did say, when accusing ministers of pretending the economy was in better shape than it was: "They are going around the country stirring up complacency." Subtly different, but different nonetheless, and I know, because I was there.

Still, that was what came to mind when I read of the low turnout, and what might be the reason for it.

14. PA primaries in my case.
Specifically Philadelphia where we are choosing which candidates are going to become the next DA and City Controller and also for Judges on several levels. Two city charter questions are also up.

Turnout was light in my ward, only 100 people had showed up over 12 hours.

7. I am guessing it is a fraternal group vote you are talking about
Edited on Tue May-19-09 04:44 PM by RandomThoughts
Just a guess, but it fits the comment, and fits no reply to what kind of vote was it question.

And fits the all Caps EAGLES in the profile of other person that voted.

But just a guess.

LOL :tinfoilhat:

Maybe they are voting on ideas brought up at Bilderberg meeting that just finished up.

But in truth all that conspiracy or secrecy is to claim some power, if people think you have power then you get power by them doing what you say by that perception of power.

8. Right, there's an election today. Taking money from health funds -
and putting them in the General Fund to balance the budget. Why there needs to be a special election for these "budget" measures, I have no idea. I first thought (and hoped) this would be a way of giving the people a chance to to have a say on spending stimulus monies, but no...
Liberatarian propositional anti-spending claptrap for the most part - more proof that California will be destroyed from within if groups like Howard Jarvis and his cohorts keep practicing "rule by proposition".
Perhaps two of the seven propositions are halfway acceptable- and 1A should only be propsed during a boom period rather than a bust period.

Gotta remind the husband we're voting today.

Haele

It didn't work when we were in charge and it doesn't work now.

20. Nope, it doesn't. I'm getting down with the idea of a constitutional convention
Governance in CA is broken beyond repair, and I can't truthfully blame the governator for the poor state of affairs. So much of the budgeting and legislative processes are tied up with weird 2/3 majority rules and tax limitations (while paradoxically proposition h8 only required a 50%+1 majority) that it defeats pretty much any attempt at reform.

21. Very likely
I don't know what legal powers he has to implement that, but he'd have pretty much everyone's support except the few remaining drug warriors. Most CA newspapers are in favor of the idea, and it seems a majority of the state's residents too.
