OK, Meghan McCain is absolutely charming!
Here she is on the Colbert Report last night (select third box):

http://www.colbertnation.com/home

And here's a snippet of her column on the Daily Beast:

On the surface, Karl Rove’s Twitter feed intrigues me. Here’s a guy who for years has been perceived as some kind of inaccessible man-behind-the-curtain figure. And now he Tweets numerous times a day. I’ve never met him in person, which only makes our Twitter relationship even weirder. And to be honest, I find Rove’s Tweets boring.

She's basically a social liberal, and a fiscal conservative.
Like it or not, a lot of the country is like that. McCain Sr. was once somewhat more moderate on social issues too, but he sold his soul in his run for Pres.

19. Yeah, tragically, there is that.
She hasn't moved all the way, and maybe she never will. But pro gay marriage isn't something that would ever come out the mouth of today's Republicans, nor would being for comprehensive sex education. Also, she's 24. Dennis Kucinich was ALSO pro-life until just a few years ago.

3. Talk about missing the POINT!
"To be honest, I find Rove’s Tweets boring. Sometimes he takes questions; other times he talks about his appearances on cable news and other shows. But he doesn’t say anything substantive."

If the poor thing is looking for substance in 140 characters or less, she's worse off than we thought.

Twitter, at its best, is people writing about news events they're witnessing. At its worst, it's a bunch of banal everyday crap interspersed with porn spam.

It's nothing but a vicious political game. I think she's trying to lay the groundwork for bringing back moderates. That can't be a bad thing. I don't mind honest disagreement, but that's not what we have anymore. It's all about political maneuvering and power grabs.

16. I don't know that she disagrees with everything GOP
but socially, she seems moderate to leftish.

For a lot of people, its hard to break away from the groups they've sided with in the past, and the groups that have a lot of influence over them, like their parents.

I've used this example a number of times, and I know it's anectodal, but my most recent ex-girlfriend was from a very conservative family. Despite expressing mostly Democratic points of view, she called herself and often voted Republican. We talked about this a few times, and now that she's move away from being under the direct influence of her folks, she's admitted that she is more of a moderate and votes like it.

39. I don't think she is, but I also don't think SHE knows it yet...lol
When she was on "The View," they were discussing the morning-after pill. Of course, she identified herself as pro-life (*newsflash right-wingers*: EVERYONE is pro-life; you're either pro-choice or anti-choice).

However, within 30 seconds she ended up telling the story of accompanying her friend to a clinic where she was administered the morning-after pill, and she completely supported her friend's choice and felt it was the best choice. She said it should be the WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE.

I've found so many right-wingers don't understand the meaning of words; they tend to blindly follow without considering what those labels even mean.

18. Megan McCain has said several times now
she "loves" the Republican Party. Do not kid yourself: She's Republican. First, last and always. She's also trying to soften the brand for younger people who will not do the research. ("She was on Colbert, she must be cool.")

25. I've seen what she said
First, I'll say that she's 24 years old and surrounded by Republicans so it's not terribly surprising that she hasn't developed her own political identity yet (and she many never). She says she loves the Republican party but she disagrees with it almsot across the board on social issues. She may always be and vote Republican, but if she can succceed in moving the Republican party to the left socially, she's at least good for that.

I agree that she's trying to make the brand more appealing to youth, but at the same time, I don't think she's as red as she thinks she is. Like I said, it took my ex a long time to realize that she wasn't a Republican and conservative. It's hard to abandon groups we've associated ourselves with for a long time. Megan might never do so. Still, if I have the choice between Rove conservatism, and Megan McCain's version, that's an easy choice for me to make.

>Still, if I have the choice between Rove conservatism, and Megan McCain's version, that's an easy choice for me to make.<

Megan McCain is a little girl in dress-up clothes presenting the kinder, gentler version of the NeoCons. Anyone who thinks she's anything different is buying into the PR offensive. If you listened to her comments last night about "the Republican Party is a great place for gay people," for instance, you'd realize how delusional she is.

If she thinks the Republican Party accepts her and her social liberal/economic conservative views, she's nuts. The only reason the gloves haven't come off yet is that she's not perceived as successful. When she becomes more successful, she'll be under attack nobody could withstand.

34. That's a win-win.
If she does manage in some way to dislodge the neocon tendencies, while injecting some moderation, that's good. If she gets eaten alive, we'll know that the party can't be changed. At all. It will go the way of the Whigs. Because the future of this country IS social liberalism, period. As you poll younger and younger, you get more and more socially liberal.

The only thing that is getting her attention right now is that she's the offspring of the latest Presidential candidate and that she's not typical in her views. In ten years, no one is going to care about the '08 election and if she returns to 'traditional values', it takes away her angle.

36. That's kinda the point I'm making
Megan is, at least socially, a RINO. Do I think the Republicants accept her views on social issues? Nope. So in the long run, I hope she'll realize that she is indeed NOT a Republican and switch parties.

I right now, she wants to believe the Republican party is something that it's not. In the mean time, I support her because at least socially, she (mostly) supports liberal points of view.

She wants the Republican party to do something it's not going to do...become socially liberal.

From a strategic standpoint, she's smart enough to realize why the R's have gotten their asses handed to them two elections in a row. She's trying to re-brand the party to some extent, but the party isn't going to allow that to happen.

But if we're going to be subjected to it, at least it's not someone like the viscous Laura Ingraham, or psychotic Ann Coulter, or scrambled eggs for brains Sarah Palin. In the context of these expectations, it could be worse.

This is a place that has fistfights over Obama, you don't think that if Meghan did a serious run for something we would just be hoodwinked? Most Republican women (Coulter, Matalin, Ingraham, Palin) have the warmth and humanity of a spinning bladesaw. She stands in refreshing distinction to that. That's all.

I think it'd be great if we could finally put the nonsensical wedge issues aside and start having the real debate. How much wasted energy is spent on things that should obviously happen- of course a woman should be able to choose, of course there should be sex ed. Now that both sides agree, let's start talking about what matters. If our side can't make a convincing case on that, we deserve to lose.

45. You are correct. Good to know.
She seems to have a hot head just like her dad. Interesting what she'd say to this.

Sen. John McCain’s daughter — who writes online for The Daily Beast and will soon release a book about life as a Republican — lost it after getting stopped by security when she arrived at the White House Correspondents dinner Saturday. The problem? She had only two tickets, but brought two friends.

“The security guard sent her to talk to someone to sort out the situation, but Meghan got bratty and nastily told him, ‘We’ll just stand here then,’ like an insolent child,” our source said, adding that after dealing with the guard, “She muttered to her friends, ‘Does he even know who the f--- I am?’ ”

The vocal McCain “was complaining about everything from the air-conditioning to the wait,” says our leak.

FWIW, while doing a search on this, I came across that site, they hate her with the heat of a thousand white-hot suns, more than any of us possibly could, in their usual crude way.
