Karen Hughes on torture: "I worried about how that would make us look in the eyes of the world."

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/life/main/6429833.html

<snip>

While she worked for Bush, she also was his personal grammarian. She and Bush had their Webster moments, she said. For example, once Bush made a speech, then turned to her.

“Did I do anything wrong that time?” he asked.

“I hated to tell him, but he said ‘misunderestimate.’ That’s not a word.”

“I did not,” Bush said.

“Yes, you did,” retorted Andy Card, then his chief of staff. “Three times.”

...

She acknowledged the current uproar over interrogation tactics and allegations of prisoner torture during the Bush years.

“I was very vocal in the internal debate,” she said. “I worried about how that would make us look in the eyes of the world. But I had left the White House when a lot of that was taking place.”

Then she paused, worried for the first time in 90 minutes that she’d made a gaffe.

Whatever Sen. John McCain says about interrogation techniques, she added quickly, she has similar views.

1. She cares about how the immoral, lying, torture loving SOBs will look....
...and not the inhumanity and illegality of the vile actions taken?

Talk about having one's priorities and values totally fucked up!

5. No shit on that one....
...she is WORRIED how they will look if things like the rape and torture of detainees come out???

Hard for me to believe that people like this actually exist outside of mental institutions and super max prisons.

JMHO

12. Oh, God - is that Bucket woman planning another candlelight supper?
If she's performing variations of Cecelia Bartoli arias again, I'm taking shelter at a Dimmu Borgir concert. :headbang:

2. Wasn't She Part Of The WHIG Group In the White House?......
wasn't she involved in many of the decisions on the Iraq war? Is she starting to develop her alibi and is she beginning to point fingers away from her? Seems to me the Congress should have her up to the Hill and put some pressure on her - to see what she knows.

9. Makes sense.
They had to torture out a few justifications to get the Iraq war started.
