5. There is a distinction,

though it is not set in stone. Employees of intelligence agencies often go from one position to another. A couple examples are worth looking closely at. There are people from intelligence agencies who "retire," and take positions with the corporate media. Bob Woodward, formerly of naval intelligence, left the military to work as a journalist, something he had no background in. Also, people in intelligence can retire, and take positions within a wide range of organizations. John Ali "retired" from his desk job with the FBI, and became one of the top officials within the Nation of Islam. There are, of course, numerous other examples worthy of consideration.
