But torture pics will bring more attacks on our troops?

How about we show them and Obama states "This is the work of a previous administration which shows it's true colors, our administration is committed to stopping such practices and we as a nation apologize for the outrage and we will prosecute those responsible."

Because now folks in those countries can just make up all kinds of torture scenarios and let their imagination run wild. And we know they will.

The blogosphere there (and all over really) will now fan the flames in ways showing those pics could never do.

Not to mention photoshopped or staged photos people might circulate around, especially now that the interest is piqued.

Just my 2 cents.

1. My husband said the same thing pretty much - imaginations will run wild
and people have the ability to imagine far worse.

The truth is better...even when it's ugly.

The thing is, what people can imagine will cause anger and anti-America sentiment just the same as releasing the pictures.

So I don't really think it's about troop safety - because either way, the troops are targets.

4. I would imagine within the next day the rumors will run rampant
But I suppose to some in government that is ok. And my fear now is it will do the very thing Obama says he wants to avoid.

2. Exactly. If Obama doesn't put the blame right where it belongs, NOW, he too will own it.

The only conscionable thing for Obama to say at this crucial point in our American History.

3. Perhaps they could just show us the tools

(woops! That last one wasn't related to torture... that's how the Bush administration treated their own citizens, not the enemy combatants.... my bad)

6. BINGO !
It is never a good idea to try to hide the truth, especially if everybody already knows.
It gives the appearance of trying to protect War Criminals.

In fact, NOT releasing the photos does help protect War Criminals.
