Hundreds of "pre-born" babies spiritually adopted.
Edited on Tue Apr-03-07 12:07 AM by LiberalHeart
I never heard of this before: spiritual adoptions of pre-born babies that people agree to pray for over a nine month period, then they have a baby shower.

2. That's exactly how it hits me.
But then, I'm extremely pro-choice. And not religious.

5. The Catholic Church has really gone overboard on this issue.
Too bad they don't seem to care much about illegal wars, poverty, or social justice. They'd prefer to compete for the same minds that Jerry Falwell markets to.

6. Mormons believe we were all "alive" before we are borne
and lived in heaven prior to birth. This sounds like an extension of that theory.

7. Key words:
"Church/School Program".

It's anti-choice indoctrination: "...new program combining prayer for those threatened by abortion and education about an unborn child’s nine months of development in the womb."

And the same people still will not sanction comprehensive sex ed or birth control, so we know it's still all about dominating women and keeping them under the patriarchal heel.

Nothing at all new here, just a new format and new publicity.

8. This has to be the funniest, most galling thing in the abortion debate I've ever read...
It's the stereotype-given-life of anti-choicers falling all over themselves to appear to care about babies while they're in the womb, but once they're born it's, "Here's a check; don't spend it all in once place. Now screw you little fuckers, there's more pre-borns to be saved!"

9. Hey, I've got a great idea!
Why not show the same level of love and support for post-born babies! Those born to mothers who can't really afford them, but who gave birth. I realize that some of them will be born to non-white mothers, but don't post-born babies of any race deserve the same love and caring as those born to blond, blue-eyed mothers?

They deserve exactly the same amount of love and support shown to any other group of babies. How about it, fundies? Care to step up to the plate and help what is in many cases young, unmarried girls who give birth, but have problems making a decent home for their offspring? I await your reply.

Pre-born babies are not going hungry, or cold, or being abused. Those things are the legacy of babies who are born, but born to people who are not ready, or fit to be parents. So, in my opinion, pre-born babies can wait...it's those already born who need our support, and our love, and laws designed to help them survive, once they've gone through their mother's birth canal.

What could I have been thinking????? It's an outrage to Bush and his followers that non-white babies have the temerity to be born in this country!:sarcasm:

Freepers don't care about them, or as far as that goes, poor white babies born here.

19. too bad they don't give a fuck about these babies once they are actually born
but then again, I guess its easier to pray for babies still in the womb, rather than actually deal with the needs of a real, living, breathing infant.

And Gawd forbid they actually take the time to care for a child or work for reform of the social services system that would ensure a happy, healthy life for those kids. One weekend a year protesting at the local family planning clinic is all they can spare.

22. Strange. Why not throw a baby shower for a possible-to-be-born baby.
Instead of buying gifts for all the sperm that happened to ever reach eggs.

Edited on Tue Apr-03-07 01:55 AM by Maat
there were NO conservative religious zealots of any kind; I guess they don't believe in helping THOSE children (who might have been exposed to the ILLEGAL DRUGS our government probably had a hand in putting on the street). Hypocrisy, thy name is Rightwing Religious Zealot.

Guess how much support for the adoption we got from our fundamentalist and Conservative relatives? You guessed it - NONE!

On edit: I should add that, when I was a social worker, those conservative rightwing religious zealots also were reluctant to fully FUND the required social programs and charities to help keep families together. Actually, I read in today's newspaper that Dubya and his Minions were CUTTING food and nutrition funding at the same time that records numbers of American citizens and residents were plunging in to poverty. Unbelievable.
