2. Hey, we all have our faults.
The bigger our egos, the bigger the faults. I hope John comes to his senses and tries to work thinks out with his wife and family and asks forgiveness. It's a personal thing for he and Elizabeth and really none of our business. It's sad that it is all over the TV.

14. It's all over TV at this point bc Elizabeth is promoting her book on the subject, so I'm
guessing she is not the least bit sad about that.

His hair isn't very well combed.

7. I want my campaign donations back, John.
Edited on Mon May-11-09 10:50 AM by AndyA
You took them knowing you were going to drop out.

You took them knowing you let your little brain dictate over your big brain.

I feel I was defrauded, you would have never been able to win knowing that news of the affair once out would be a deal killer.

Give your campaign donations back. You don't deserve them.

Edit to add: What John did was no worse than what John McCain did, or Newt Gingrich, or David Vitter, or any of the others who would have condemned John's affair. And I will at least give John a few points for not abandoning his family as McCain and Gingrich did.

I will never forgive John for what he did to Elizabeth and his family. There is simply no excuse for it, and quite frankly that chick he banged wasn't even all that pretty, and she certainly has no ethics or morals to have an affair with a high profile married man. He would have been better off staying at home with Elizabeth, at least he can have an intelligent conversation with her.

13. Do you have some rotten tomatoes we can throw or something?
I never did have any respect for him. His speech in the Senate promoting the war in Iraq sounded like it came from Cheney's speech writer. What he did to his wife was awful(of course) but Elizabeth is joining the awful by forcing her children to speak to Oprah about "daddy's affair". Jeebus what is wrong with these people?

18. I don't hate him. I don't dislike him. He was a reasonable candidate for Prez....
... and we would have lost our asses if he had captured the nomination.

Edwards's inability to keep his pecker in his pants would have had ramifications far beyond his own, personal world. I'm grateful he fell out of the picture early.

21. Yes, of course, it's personal. That's why his wife wrote a book on it and he and she are all over
TV promoting it.

They can talk about it and hope to make money from it, but it's off limits otherwise.

Got it.

27. I'm not saying it's OFF LIMITS. It's his personal life, and he's now a private
citizen, so I don't really care what the story is anymore. If other people want to obsess over it, well, that's pretty typical for America these days.

26. DIsappointed, that's all--like with Eliot Spitzer--both had so much
to offer... and their personal lapses largely destroyed that potential....

I hope they both move past this and dedicate themselves to helping to move this country forward. We especially need Spitzer right now, but Edwards could have been such an advocate for single payer health care.

31. Meh...
I supported Edwards and frankly, I find it really shitty that he cheated on his wife who has cancer.

That said...

This is their private matter and I have real issues with Elizabeth Edwards going on the circuit telling her story as if she is the only person this has ever happened to.

So, personally, I find the whole mess repugnant. John for cheating and his wife airing their families dirty laundry.

I'm sure their children really appreciate this infantile behavior.

36. The man you wish to defend, on why he Must Defend Marriage
This is Edwards on why he can not support equal rights:

""Because I’m 53 years old, and I grew up in a small town in the rural South. I was raised in a the Southern Baptist church, and so I have a belief system that arises from that. It’s part of who I am. I can’t make it disappear."

Well, it seems he was able to make it disappear if he wanted to. He said lots of this stuff all through his affair. "My Daddy was a small town Deacon, and I'm just too dang values oriented to support gay stuff, shucks."

John and Elizabeth have passed up many opprotunities to apologize for those tactics. They instead speak of themselves and his lover. One man, two women, hallelujah.

38. The first time he ran my first impression of him was that he was too cute by far
Edited on Mon May-11-09 05:35 PM by lunatica
that his kind of cuteness rarely doesn't get the girl. That women would fall all over his obviously boyish charms and that he couldn't be trusted. Then he ran again and I liked what he said so he won this old crone over in spite of his boyish charm and he seemed to be such a good father and husband so I revised my feelings. Then I found out my first impression of him was correct. I don't hate him, because his looks have pretty much trapped him into having the 'cute' appeal that so many women go for. With that charm and that smile and that hair I'm sure that in his life he turned down many more women and was loyal to Elizabeth most of the time.

But first impressions are pretty important.
