Meghan McCain a real pain at D.C. dinner

.... ...The problem? She had only two tickets, but brought two friends.
“The security guard sent her to talk to someone to sort out the situation, but Meghan got bratty and nastily told him, ‘We’ll just stand here then,’ like an insolent child,” our source said, adding that after dealing with the guard, “She muttered to her friends, ‘Does he even know who the f--- I am?’ ”

An insider told us, “Those tickets were harder to get than gold dust and Meghan blatantly only had two and thought she didn’t have to follow the same rules as everyone else.” ....

Once inside, the bubbly blond’s mood didn’t improve; she was annoyed at Wanda Sykes’ roast.

“Sen. McCain gave you grief about the new helicopters you didn’t order,” said Sykes, adding, “I think Mr. McCain was a little bitter because he wanted to be in the new helicopters. Mr. McCain, I’m sure if you ask nicely, your wife will buy you a new helicopter.” ....

At least one member of the GOP had fun. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin couldn’t make the festivities due to tending to her state’s flooding problem, so she sent hubby, Todd, who had a whale of a time.

Todd happily lapped up the attention from his tablemates and rarely left the side of his date for the evening, Fox News anchor Greta van Susteren.

The two became so close that we caught them hanging out together well past midnight at Capitol File magazine’s annual after-dinner bash.

LUKE RUSSERT MIA AT NBC NEWS

.... One insider sniped, "He was hired last year to be the youth correspondent -- he got a great contract and was supposed to cover youth issues, blog and bring in young viewers, but he's been MIA for a while. It's like, 'Well, that's what you get for nepotism.' " ....

Luke was highly visible during the presidential campaign, but disappeared after the inauguration. He was raked over the coals when news of an "Inaugural Party Hosted by Luke Russert" at preppy DC nightclub the Rookery was announced. The party had a $95 cover and a "cheesy" invite with Russert posing as Uncle Sam in the "I Want You" pose. It also violated NBC's ethics policies and forced the network to issue a statement noting it was not an NBC event. Russert quickly had his image deleted from the fliers. ....

Last October, Russert told MediaBistro, he was aware of the nepotism surrounding his hiring and said, "Did my name get my foot in the door? Absolutely, I'll be the first to admit that. But has my performance and ability got my butt through the door? Yes." Too bad he seems to have looked a gift horse in the mouth. ....

1. Keep it classy, all you GOP hangers-on
You'll soon get all the attention you so richly deserve.

2. Greta is verrrry verrry touchy about this
A little too defensive. Not that I like defending Politico, since they are obnoxious little headline chasers, but does Greta think that mayyyybe the reason why her relationship with the Palins attracts so much attention is because of her husband's ties to Palin? Did Greta really need to explain this in a whole blog post? The below blog post is from Greta, but linked by Politico.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0509/Gretas_riposte.html

"On Saturday morning (before the night’s big dinner) I was at a social brunch (like everyone else in the media), and brought a guest like almost everyone in the media did. A Politico reporter came up to our Fox guest Todd Palin with a pad to take notes and interview Todd Palin (it says “started to chat” but that is not what happened or what was going on….no one is that stupid to believe that.) It was an attempt to interview him when he did not agree to it or ask for it — print paparazzi at a brunch /party!

If Todd Palin had said something about coming there for a social event (instead of me), you know what would have happened — he would have been trashed….which would have been unfair. The reporter may have been working – but he was not. He was at a social event and not looking to be ambushed by a surprise interview.

I did not bring a guest to be interviewed or grilled by the press but, like everyone else in the media, I brought the guest so the guest could meet people and have a good social time. And I certainly did not bring the guest so that Politico could interview him — I have enough friends in the business that I could do better if that were my motive….or I would have interviewed him myself. If you noticed, I did not interview him.

Here is another tidbit: our guest is NOT a candidate for office — and never has been a candidate for office. Our guest is a family member of a politician. Our guest was there to simply attend a social event.

So, when the Politico reporter started to interview my guest with pad and paper and I politely say this is a social event, off the record, I am suddenly a “handler?” a handler? Huh? Maybe I had just had good manners for a guest?"

4. Her thing for Brett FAVRE went on for weeks!1 It was like when Judith REGAN was hot over
whassisname, the GHOULiani cop commissioner, (will insert name here when my synapses click). REGAN and that dude steamed and melted the Faux cameras back then when she had an interview circus and double-dipped as his publisher. That's what it was like with Greta and FAVRE.
