Decisionmaking in a Complex World: Do you...?

A fellow DUer's excellent post got me to thinking about how the basic process of decisionmaking itself might have evolved along with how complex our environment is.

My basic question has to do with how--when faced with a difficult personal decision or choice--you make that decision.

1. Cost/benefit - with a value placed on time.

until inevitably circumstances evolve to the point the decision is clear. That's not my decision making advise, it's just what I always end up doing.

And pay attention to my dreams, which is my subconscious, "all-knowing" mind telling me what's up.

If I don't do what I feel is right, I can't sleep well at night, and I beat myself up for bad decisions mercilessly for years on end.
