Fred is running in the Reagan style. And that is an attempt to exploit the "father-knows-best" mentality. Jerry Mander outlined Reagan's "ultimate daddy" routine in his book, "In the Absence of the Sacred."

In fairness, it should be noted that Mr. Matthews also asked: {1} exactly what Fred could "solve" that others couldn't? and {2} why did Fred invest so much in the Libby defense fund? By not mentioning these questions, the OP could mistakenly be viewed as implying that Mr. Matthews is somehow endorsing Fred Thompson -- which is not even close to true.

35. Has anyone ever seen Fred Thompson smile?

I'm not commenting on his looks per se, which would be irrelevant, but on the expression he usually wears on his face. He always seems to have a disgusted look. I've never seen him smile, look excited, look happy, sad, perplexed, angry, or any number of other human emotions. He seems to always wear the same disgusted, sober, extremely uptight look on his face.

Another actor, Ronald Reagan based his entire Presidency on his ability to wrinkle his forehead, shake his head while he cocks it to one side, wearing an ironic smile and saying "there you go again". Reagan's entire governance was just that: cocking his head, shaking it, and smiling ... for all occasions and all administrative affairs.

Thompson's entire political career seems to be just looking disgusted. Tweety might call it "gravitas" but what it is is a disgusted look. If he becomes President, Thompson's entire governance will be just looking at someone in a disgusted manner with people like Tweety "oooing" and "awwing" saying "duh, gravitas, duh".
