So How Come I Hear NOTHING any more about Iraq
Except how we "won" and are apparently setting up a permanent troop presence there, as Clinton advocated in the primary?

Guess it was a just war after all, since the Democratic Party is no longer insisting on full withdrawal?

Fruit from the poisoned tree and all that -- Hillary said that we have to keep some troops in Iraq to protect vital ECONOMIC interests in the region == her quote, not mine... so I guess that means we had to find a reason to go in, and would have gone in if someone ELSE had offed Hussein == to sieze the oil royalties.

Nothing to see here, move along folks.

1. Yep, nothing. Why couldn't we have a Sec.State or Sec.Def who wants to end the Iraq War?
And the National Security Adviser was a McCain peace offering, IIRC.

2. So when is the full withdrawal date? I haven't been keeping up on the news lately.
C'mon, even Nixon set a date for full withdrawal eventually.

4. Date varies between 2010/ 2011, but get this...
that is for "military" withdrawal.
We are supposed to be leaving some "advisors" or some such named personnel there indefintely, according to Gates and even Obama.
Same game, different name.

6. The Iraq war is a taboo subject around here now...
Now that a Democrat is in charge, no one wants to talk about children getting killed in the name of America or the daily slaughter of our soldiers...

11. Good thing the war ended.
There was no way, in this economy, that we could keep throwing money away over there. A majority party who kept that up would just look ridiculous.

7. Iraq? Did that have something to do with 9/11?
Whatever that was...no one ever talks about it either anymore. I guess Osama won again.

8. That's why we have two parties: One to start wars and the other to harvest what comes out of them.

10. That's not true...
Just a couple of weeks ago, I heard about how fundamentalist Muslim militias have been torturing gay men to death in parts of Iraq. The method they used is so sadistic that I'd rather not share it with you - it still depresses me every time I think of it.

15. Covering a lost war is depressing and doesn't sell a lot of tooth whitener.
But, there will be a lot of coverage when the troops withdraw in 2009 or 2012 or 2045 or when hell freezes over.
