I wish her the best in dealing with her addiction, but is this really a surprise, considering the number of videos of her addled behavior that have been circulating for years?

2. No surprise
to me, I would've been more surprised to find out she wasn't. It's pretty obvious from the way she looks and acts that she's on something. :-(

Paula Abdul: 'I've Never Been Addicted to Drugs'

April 22, 2009

"American Idol" judge Paula Abdul says that her biggest mistake was agreeing to star in a reality show that helped fuel false rumors of alcohol and prescription drug abuse.

"I've never been addicted to any prescription drugs. I've never been drunk. I've worked my whole life," Abdul told "Nightline" in an exclusive interview. Despite undergoing 15 surgeries since a neck injury in 1992, Abdul said she has never taken addictive painkillers.

"I will not take those drugs," Abdul said. "And you can check my medical records. There is nothing like that. I was never on Oxycontin or Vicodin or anything like that. I was on nerve medicine and anti-inflammatories."

Last week ABC News followed up on Abdul's offer to "check her medical records," asking for her permission to speak to one of her doctors. She declined.

Of course, an addiction story might be better than saying the industry has canned her because she had the gall to actually age. Let's just reverse the sex of the judges: plain, obese bespectled middle-aged, balding heterosexual black woman whose comments are passable and sprinkled with street slang, a pompous middle-aged lesbian who viciously insults contestants and drives around smugly pleased with herself in a convertible, and a very attractive, off the wall dark-haired heterosexual middle-aged hispanic guy who actually has a history of being a performing dancer and singer, who looks 15 years younger than his age and always finds kind words to say, even though they're kind of loopy. Who would be the heart-throb?

Sometimes claims of gender discrimination are an exaggeration. Not in this case.

Hope she gets better and lets her hair go silver like Jamie Lee Curtis. To hell with those f**kers.

8. Not too shocking. Her incoherence was the first clue.
But the woman has had lots of surgeries, etc. Makes it even less shocking.
