Get out of house with Chinese drywall, doctor tells family (CNN)
By Rich Phillips
CNN Senior Producer

PARKLAND, Florida (CNN) -- Yorelle Haroush fled a million-dollar South Florida home this week, chased out, she said, by drywall made in China that's emitting vapors that smell like rotten eggs.

"It's making me sick. Physically, mentally and emotionally, making me sick," said the 18-year-old, who is pregnant with her first child.

Haroush lives with her aunt Amy Massachi and her four siblings and cousins in the house. They believe a year's worth of upper respiratory infections, antibiotics, bloody noses and sickness have been caused by the walls.

Their doctor said they need to get out of the $1.2 million estate in Parkland, Florida, northwest of Fort Lauderdale.

"I said, 'you can't stay there anymore, because you're sick every minute,'" the family's longtime physician, Dr. Ross Nochimson, told CNN. "They're sick on a weekly basis. Earaches, sore throat. I give them something, and they're sick again."

The smelly, highly toxic gas is H2S (hydrogen sulfide), apparently formed by reaction of SrS (strontium sulfide) with moisture or CO2. It's not clear to me where the SrS comes from, or for that matter, why there's any sulfide present at all.

1. Is there ever going to be an end to the George Bush Administration?
Edited on Wed May-06-09 08:07 PM by LakeSamish706
I seriously believe that all of this shit was caused directly by the mismanagement of our country over the past 8 years. China would never have been able to drop this crap on our country if we had, had an Obama Admin. in power.

5. Absoultely...so much damage to homeowners!
Edited on Wed May-06-09 08:03 PM by CoffeeCat
I live in the suburbs, and you wouldn't believe what is happening to many of the homes in my area.
.
These are very-widespread problems, affecting so many homeowners!

First off, masonite siding was cheap and many builders used it. Our home is only ten years old and we have
$5,000 worth of damage. We have friends who live in a neighborhood across town. Most of those homes are 5BR
and more than 4,000 square feet, and less than 10 years old. The siding is crumbling. Most have around $15,000
worth of damage.

You can sue the maker of the masonite siding, but the company has gone bankrupt and there's not a lot of money
to be had. You can join a class-action, but the lawyers take half, at least. This is a HUGE problem.

Also, Pella windows. They were improperly designed and cause water to leak inside homes. Our Pella wood windows
aren't even 10 years old and they are rotting. Water comes in and has ruined curtains. In the winter, there is
frost on the inside of the windows! Pella has admitted they manufactured a faulty product. We had them come out
and look at our windows. They said they would replace all windows for $1,000 total plus $50 labor for each--plus
we have to stain them ourselves. Nice...they make a defective product and WE PAY.

Ten people in my neighborhood alone have had their Pella windows replaced.

Stuff like this happens when corporations run amok and no longer give a damn about the consumer. It's the Dems
and the Reps who have kow towed to the corporations for far too long. Corporate America understands that they
can cut costs, screw us--and they will make billions--leaving consumers and homeowners royally screwed.

It's very sad.

4.  because it was super cheap...
...and when you're in the business of building hundreds, maybe thousands, of homes--the cost savings adds up.

Sad, but true.

3. Treat each and every situation like a bio-hazard.
The United States could put more people to work cleaning up all the hazards China has dumped in this country, then turn around and deduct 10 times the cost to the U.S. Government from it's debt to China.

7. Just imagine the new homes built on the MS Gulf Coast after Katrina
First folks lost all they had to Katrina, the bushco admin put them in sick travel trailers and then they had their houses built with the Chinese drywall - the nightmare that won't ever end.

I'm going to have my house tested, one never knows what tomorrow brings.
