Reid may move to cut Iraq war funds
LINK

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record) said Monday he will try to cut off funding for the Iraq war if President Bush rejects Congress' proposal to set a deadline for ending combat.

The move is likely to intensify the Democrats' rift with the administration, which already contends Democrats are putting troops at risk by setting deadlines.

"It's time the self-appointed strategists on Capitol Hill understood a very simple concept: You cannot win a war if you tell the enemy you're going to quit," Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday at fundraising luncheon for Sen. Jeff Sessions (news, bio, voting record), R-Ala.

In recent weeks, the House and Senate voted separately to finance the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan but set an end date for combat in Iraq. The House proposal orders all combat troops as of Aug. 31, 2008, whereas the Senate orders some troops to leave right away with the nonbinding goal of ending combat by March 31, 2008.

I was beginning to think that they were NEVER going to figure it out!

Chimp refuses to sign the first bill, you make the second even more unattractive to him!

Bravo, Senator Reid!

4. This is good for a number of reasons
I think Americans know that Iraq is going to be a disaster with us there or without us there. In fact, Bush has as much as guaranteed the public that it'll be bad when we leave. I don't think Americans are under any illusions about Iraq's situation when we leave.

Also, presenting a strong face to the administration is important. Voters will perceive democrats as able to stand up to Bush and force his hand. They voted in November to get this damned occupation over with and they expect results.

All of Bush's braying about 'not supporting troops', 'disaster will happen' etc is sounding very very hollow to voters.

Good for Reid

The best way to support the troops is to bring them home NOW.

5. bush is thumbing his nose at anyone against his "surge"
He is sending troops over there that are worn out, burned out, unhealthy, etc. It was mentioned today how thousands more troops are headed that way in the next few months. Then Bolton is on tv blabbing about getting tough with Iran, bashing Pelosi for interferring with our great leaders diplomatic endeavors with the ME. Ugh

Let's hope Reid sticks with his guns. This bush bunch are determined to do as much damage to this country that they can before their time is up or they are physically removed.
