"Government run" healthcare.....
There it is. The scare words. "Government run" health care. Like the red baiting of old, the meme of anything being run by the government, much less our health care system, has to be by default something to be avoided.

But what do they mean by "government run" when you can go to see any doctor or specialist of your choosing?

What do they mean by "government run" when we all pay into a system that merely acts as the party that transfers payments from the taxpayer to the service provider at a lower cost than a privately held insurance company whose only motive is profit?

Is the Social Security System or the Medicare System or the Veterans Administration any less efficient than the private sector, save for the lack of funding?

It IS possible to have a Single-Payer Medicare For All Health Care System in the United States that learns the lessons of the flaws in the other industrialized nations' systems

6. I'd rather have DOCTORS than INSURANCE co. make the decisions.
Our current for-profit system is perverse.

3. every single one of our "representatives" (and believe me, I use that word most advisedly)
needs to be made to watch Michael Moore's "Sicko" for a week straight. maybe, just maybe, at that point it might begin to sink into their totally unconscious, unconscionable minds, just what universal health care is. and just how pathetic the current system is.

4. Being married to a Canadian, I have had a chance to see both
systems in practice and their's his better than ours in almost every way. The only area where they might not be "competitive" is in end-of-life care, which is enormously expensive. In the US, doctor's often try to keep patients on life-support for as long as possible, because of the profit motive. In Canada, they are more conservative, although one can still go to a private hospital to get this care.

7. Scare tactic used by people who don't want the government making medical decisions for them.
They want insurance companies making medical decisions.

Yeah, that sounds like good medical care... :eyes:

10. scare tactic by those who also want to work for the government
it kills me that the right never questions this... If government is so awful and corrupt and inefficient, then why elect those who hate government, as they tend to make it worse? It's like hiring a schoolbus driver who hates driving.
