After careful consideration and much soul-searching
I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration for appointment to the Supreme Court.

I know this will come as an unwelcome shock to my many supporters, but I have determined that it would be too traumatic for my loved ones to watch me go through the vetting process and have all those old skeletons exhumed.

2. Heh. I withdrew mine because I wanted to spend more time with my family.

3. i hear you...
my advisors have recommended me removing my name, also...

seems like there was one night in 1972, in particular, that single-handedly will cause my eventual rejection...

and the events of the next day have yet to be determined...

6. in my waiter days, i always had a disconnect in only one area...
i always worked in 'upscale' joints, and would take orders without writing anything...but when it came dessert/coffee/etc. at the end of a meal, i could never, and i mean NEVER, keep regular or decaf coffee orders straight...

i would generally, if it was more than 2 people(!) have to ask a second time...i would always say "I can't keep coffee orders straight...but, then again, I don't remember 1972 at all!"...always got an amused response....i think my guests always figured it appeared likely....

7. Clearing the field for the inevitable ascension of Justice gratuitous
You've heard of hanging judges? Call me the King of Swing! Justice gratuitous opinions will be studied and debated for decades, if not centuries, by professionals learned in the mental health arts. Controversy and chaos will be the order of the day.

8. How wonderful.
My simple but courageous act of withdrawal has vastly benefited three noble professions--psychology, the law and physics. The last-named field can of course be expected to make great strides in advancing our understanding of thermodynamcis, what with all the disorder that will be released and made available for study.
