If You Were President . . .
Justice David H. Souter plans to retire from the Supreme Court in June, giving President Obama his first appointment to the court and the first seat for a Democratic president to fill in 15 years. Make your own selection for a replacement from the list of leading contenders below, or enter your own pick.

3. Chimerinsky is too old.
While I studied his textbook on Constitutional Law, and while I believe his heart is in the right place, I am not impressed with him as a scholar, and I would prefer a younger candidate.

6. Of those, I like Leah Ward Sears, Merrick B. Garland, and Kim M. Wardlaw best.
 Pamela S. Karlan is an attractive runner-up.
