Miss CA's implants and the sick mentality of beauty pageants
I wonder if Miss CA is a veteran of those "Little Miss" pageants a la Jon Benet Ramsey.

Personally I didn't like the Countdown segment where they were bagging on her implants, it seemed bullying.

But as the mom of two teenage girls, it makes me sad that someone as beautiful as Miss CA would feel like she has to petition to have bags of chemicals implanted in her chest to "feel better about herself."

I really hate the pageant mentality and would never consider poor Miss CA a role model for my girls of anything except "don't let this happen to you!"

She's obviously a product of this pageant culture of obsessing on the physical and totally neglecting her intellectual development completely. Her answers on that Greta show were embarassing. Civil Unions? "You know what I don't know anything abou that....I just defend marriage!" Etc. etc. The transcript is unbelievable -- it's like she's taken on this anti-gay marriage crusade without ever giving a second thought to the complexities of the issue.

1. I hate those contests
but there is a serious question that hasn't been answered. If the pageant organizers arranged for her implants, how did that affect other contestants.
The woman isn't even attractive. She's a despicable barbie doll makeover who is even more unattractive when she opens her mouth.

Then again, under the makeup, bleach, spray tanner, silicone titties, etc, there's no telling what she looks like. With it she looks like every orange-skinned, bleached, mallrat around, only tall and rather underfed. Oh, and hopelessly stupid.

13. Technology has given a voice to many millions of people who are just now "thinking" about issues
that a few million other people have been thinking about and looking at in their empirical world for most of their lives.

In short, a bunch of newbies have the opportunity to shoot off their mouthes these days and say "I think" when they know almost 0 about whatever it is that they are talking about.

self loathing. If that is the case, what about botox, face lifts, tummy tucks, make up, stomach stapling, nose jobs, braces, etc.? That being said, I think beauty pageants are a little stupid along with Miss CA.

22. Women get implants solely to attract men.

Some of those procedures you listed are beneficial for health. Braces for instance, usually correct a problem that might otherwise cause significant pain or other issues later on. Those crooked teeth can cause migraines, accelerated tooth decay, etc... Stomach stapling could end up saving the life of a person who battles chronic obesity. Tummy tucks, nose jobs and facelifts can be classified as vanity surgery, but the results usually appeal to society's broader view of beauty. Both men and women have these surgeries. Make up can be washed off.

Breast implant surgery is probably among the most dangerous, from a health standpoint, of all those you listed. Seepage, scar tissue... and some women lose sensation so in a sense, women are trading their own pleasure for male constructed visual preference. Only women get them, and the only purpose they serve is sexual. Women don't really give a crap what size breasts other women have. And like lip injections it's one of those surgeries that reconstructs a person with plastic, as opposed to "cutting away" parts of the body like the others. It serves to turn people into cartoon characters.

24. Congrats to your sister and her beloved!

No, you're right, self-loathing isn't always an issue, nor did I mean to imply that. But why did your sister's girlfriend get them? Either way, whether it's concerns gay or straight people, the sole reason for getting them is to increase sexual attractiveness. And she is risking her health in having them, every day of her life. You can't say the same for a nose job or facelift. Once it's done, it's over with.

It seems this idea is very prevalent & PC these days. Almost Puritan, in fact. I don't understand why other's personal choices concern society this much.

30. Sometimes it is.

Genital mutilation serves the purpose of making women of certain cultures more attractive to men, but the rest of the world wouldn't necessarily think of it as a fine thing and consider it a practice that harms the health of women. Peoples' personal choices are not the business of society, but people usually base their personal choices on what society tells them is in vogue at the moment, so how personal are personal choices? Currently, wearing plastic bags in your chest is in vogue. Twenty years from now, the opposite may be true.

Of course there's nothing wrong with increasing sexual attractiveness. It's a shame men don't have similar options for increasing the size of their penises.

I was merely pointing out the differences between certain types of surgeries. Wearing braces and having your tummy stapled = health concern. Boob implants = sexual attractiveness. That be all.

31. "It's a shame men don't have similar options "
...but they do. One can actually use weights to lengthen it; as well as penile implants. I'm not saying they are succesful across the board, but there are a few options.
My husband was involved in a related industry in CA a few years ago; he's seen a lot of different things like this.

32. Yeah, but -

- those weight exercises require patience and a routine over a period of time. They only add maybe one or two inches at the most, so someone with a five inch penis is not going to end up with nine inches and a lot more girth. Women can go from small to really pretty big with a lot less rigamarole.

Penile implants are mostly used to help those men who can't get erections. You won't find millions of men going out to get them in order to please their women the way women have boob jobs to please their sexual partners or to feel more normal in our society.

55. Surprisingly, I'm with you a bit on this.
After working around it so much of my life, I do know that there are women who solely get the BA just for the validation the get from other people. I knew this absolutely BEAUTIFUL, gorgeous woman who ended up having three (3!!) during the six years I knew her..all because she wanted to be 'perfect'. She was hopelessly in love with this man who owned a bar I worked at while in college..and six years later, she was STILL asking me if I had heard from him. All because he liked girls with boob jobs, I guess.

Ri-diculous. She was intelligent and well-educated and drop-dead gorgeous (I mean Heidi Klume would have been awed) and ...finding her validation from what her chest size would get her. So very, very sad.

However,

I specifically did *not* get a BA for 14 years to confirm to myself that I was happy with the way I was..and did not need it to make myself or another happy. And despite having an active love life, I have had two eight year relationships since I was 20..and I'm 35. All at the size I am now. So I know that if I were to desire a BA, it would be because I want one,not because my spouse would find me more attractive with it.

I'm an exotic entertainer by career choice. It's part and parcel of stepping up my game so as to increase my earning potential. I will not apologize for any of that. I've done my research; talked to hundreds of women and men about their experiences and opinions; talked to doctors. I am comfortable with my decision and have also danced for 14 years without them, so I know both sides..or I will, shortly.

Oh, and yes..they will make me a bit more confident. But I'm pretty confident already.

- thought they were too small? Does she sleep better with bigger breasts? Do they enhance her performance at work? Aid in performing household chores or facilitate athletic ability?

I'm assuming she got them for you, and/or because society at large says women with bigger boobies are more sexually attractive.

49. I don't think that's the case
Go down the list of things women supposedly do to themselves to attract men--makeup, plastic surgery, capped teeth, etc., etc., etc.--and you'll notice one recurring theme: most men at least claim not to like any of them. I think they do these things to gain the approval of other women. Women are fuckin' vicious, man. Men look at a woman in a dress and think "she looks nice in that dress." Women look at her and think, "that designer is SOOOOOO last week!"

Guys, OTOH, are lying fuckers--they say they want "no-fakery natural beauty" but that's bullshit. What they want is "fake, but not obviously so." Ladies, do an experiment. Have someone photograph you with no makeup, messy hair, etc. Next, style your hair and apply a nice, attractive amount of cosmetics, and get photographed again. Then style yourself like you're trying out for the Ziegfield Follies, and have a third photo made. (Wear the same top and accessories in all three photos.) Lay all three pictures side by side with the bare-face picture to the left and the showgirl picture to the right...and ask your significant other which is the best likeness of you. Ninety percent of all men will choose the middle photo. The other ten percent would split down the middle--half would like the no-makeup photo, the other half the ton-of-makeup one.

If you remember, her answer didn't make any sense -- the first part didn't logically lead to the second part. Then she becomes the anti-gay marriage spokesperson and has these press confs and Faux News interviews etc. and it's obvious she's never even really thought about this issue at all.

For somebody who wants the law to reflect "how she was raised" and "what she believes," I'm not really that impressed with how she was raised. She was raised to be obsessed with her looks and ignore her brain. IMO.

DU is pretty consistently anti-pageant. If she would have come out and run down Proposition 8, demanded immediate marriage equality and declared she was a lesbian, we'd still be here ripping on her bad implants (there'd also be a huge contingent bitching about her getting implants in the first place), kiddie pageants, adult pageants, her bad fake teeth, bad fish lips, fucked-up eye makeup, etc., etc., etc. Frankly, I'm kinda shocked--so far no one's mentioned JonBenet Ramsey, which of course ALL these women started off as, at least in the view of about half the people here.

And I got teased a lot when I was younger because of my small chest size. Sometimes you just have to compensate. There are a lot of leg and ass men out there (bless em!) Obviously I was never destined to win a wet T shirt contest but hey, it's not something I ever aspired to anyway. If there are gals who can make some money because guys are willing to pay to look at their titties I'm all for it (providing the girl is cool with it) I don't like the look of fake boobs myself but a woman woman does to her own body is her own choice.

38. Fake boobs or no, there's a reason Miss CA didn't win
This is Carrie Prejean, Miss California USA, the woman at the epicenter of this controversy:

This is Kristen Dalton, the woman who won the Miss USA pageant:

Both of 'em have implants. Both of 'em tan at Earl Scheib. Both of 'em could use about 20 properly-placed pounds, and this "natural nails and nude lips" fad needs to fucking END. But Carrie's answer sounded like it came out of the mouth of Miss West Carolina (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUE1Cu04Jzo), and Kristen has a prettier face.

Oh yeah: Carrie, eyeliner is good. About half of what you have on is better--and it doesn't go all the way across your lower lid, 'kay?

48. They are close, no doubt about it...
Kristen's face is just a bit broader than Carrie's, which gives her a little nicer presence. Also, Carrie's got a bit of the fish-lips thing going on. It's not so severe as to suggest she's had silicone injections--it's more like she uses lip plumping cosmetics. Kristen's lips are thinner, and set off her face better. (I still think they're the wrong shade--cranberry would have been perfect.)

Remember the old sexist "10 point scale"? I'd give Carrie an 8, Kristen an 8-1/2.

This is what 10 looks like to me...

56. Carrie Prejean not only has breast implants, but likely plastic surgery on the face
Edited on Sun May-03-09 05:03 AM by JI7
she had a certain pasted on frozen look that people with plastic surgery and botox often have.

if you look at some older pics and recent pics you notice the difference.

someone commented upthread that she looks like Jessica Simpson and i agree, she does kind of look like her and i think that's the look she was trying to get when she went in for the plastic surgery.
