Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Coulter visits Pitt to roast liberals

About 40 picket the conservative firebrand
Monday, April 02, 2007

By Nate Guidry, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Ann Coulter, the controversial conservative columnist, wasted little time raising the heat index at the University of Pittsburgh's David Lawrence Hall last night.

Speaking at the request of the College Republicans and Young America's Foundation, Ms. Coulter talked about everything from Hillary Clinton and the upcoming presidential elections to the war in Iraq, liberal sissies, and the "godless liberals" and their hate for America.

When asked what she would do if ever elected president, she responded with a smile and said, "Deport all liberals."

About an hour before the lecture, nearly 40 students from the Pitt College Democrats and other organizations protested outside the entrance to David Lawrence Hall.

1. Selling books with spitefull bullshit.
It's a Coulter thing.

She doesn't scare me. Most of what she says is done for that very purpose. Now the people who actually think she's real, that her ideas are some form of viable, and that her insulting tactics are really 'clever debate'...yeah they make me want to start a slapfest.

4. She's a publicity-craving hag who's envious of anyone having what she doesn't
Like a happy marriage, children, career contentment - and friends.

6. Meh...her own personal failures aside she's all hot air
She only says what she says to sell books to idiots who actually think her bs has some form of validity and the only way to win a debate is by insulting people.

It's people who actually listen to her. They are the real horror shows.

15. I read a quote somewhere that referred to her as "the Paris Hilton of the right", which
I took to mean that she's a rich, racist, publicity-craving opportunist.

3. I don't find her controversial, she's just a mediocre clown
amusing those with no sense of humor. She's talking to a bunch of young republicans about "sissy" liberals. Very rich ann. And just how are you going to deport this sissy liberal ann?

5. Ah, She's So Cute ...
Ilya asks, " What does "Carthago delenda est!" mean. The standard translation is "Carthago must be destroyed". I just read a site that suggests that it really means "If Carthagen is not destroyed we are all doomed" though I really doubt that can be expressed in three words. What is the context for the phrase and what does it really mean?"

It does literally mean "Carthage must be destroyed," but has a deeper connotation that has made it a cliche. As the Romans were building their empire, they worried about Carthage, a wealthy city nearby. They had not been able to defeat it militarily and as the Romans dedicated all of their resources to expansion, Carthage thrived on trade. The fear from some was that a prosperous Carthage would stand as a constant threat to Rome and so Cato the Elder coined the slogan "Carthago delenda est!" which he would repeat and repeat and repeat. Unless they engaged in a war of pre-emption to destroy Carthage, Carthage would no doubt ultimately destroy Rome, went the reasoning. Cato was so persistent that ultimately the Romans agreed and sacked Carthage in the Punic wars. It has been almost 2000 years since and the Romans still have yet to find the weapons of mass destruction that Dickus Chenius, assistant to Cato the Younger said were in Carthage as written in the scrolls "Meetus the Pressius". So "Carthage must be destroyed!" is a way of saying, it's a dog eat dog world and we need to attack to save ourselves.

7. She's an entertainer . . .
Not very entertaining to thee and me, of course, but just the most recent in a long line . . .

The specific category is "geek," not in its modern connotation, but in its previous, carny connotation, as "the freak show performer who bites the heads off live chickens."

There'll always be a market for that. Take note of her fans for future reference, they may pose a danger to the community going forward.

11. How appropriate Coulter speaks on April fools day.
You'd have to be a fool to waste an evening on her especially if you're in college. But then again if you're a college republican you probably don't have much of a social life.

And yes, she would have to be president first in order for that to fully work, but my feelings remain the same.

28. Armenian Genocide redux?
You can't just "deport" millions of people randomly, with no place to go -- that's bullshit doublespeak at its finest. It necessarily means "internal relocation", perhaps to Gulags, or maybe just Auschwitz and Birkinau all over again. Sadly, if we ever came to such straits that bitch Coulter could be elected president of this country, it's only because our fellow countrymen would be all too willling to try firing up the ovens again.

She's basically advocating a massacre, nothing less, and it should not be mistaken as anything more benign. Likewise, the "Young Republicans" she visited are no less harmful than Hitler Youth, and should never ever be trusted under any circumstances.
