A Must watch- Movie/Documentary about GM foods and Monsanto

http://www.hulu.com/watch/67878/the-future-of-food#

"The future of food:
The Future Of Food offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade."

This is some scary chit.

Allergens, Lawsuits, risks in nutrition, lack of regulation, untested enviromental effects and untrialed to the effects on humans.

They pinpoint it to 1992, and the first Bush Admin-
Definately a must watch. Next time this comes up for a vote we really need to bust it wide open, as far as labeling GM foods.

(EDIT: I wish we could get it off the shelves but now that it's in the enviroment we can't get it out. Those idiots :( )

I haven't watched this yet but I've learned too much about Monsanto and GM foods. It's just scary. I wish everyone would learn EVERYTHING that's gone into getting ALL their food on their plates.

I'm glad farmers' markets are growing so much, I think people would demand local, natural foods if they realized what our industries are doing to our future.

(and TY for the video.)

4. I can't stream - dialup
Edited on Fri May-01-09 07:30 PM by tbyg52
And it turns out Netflix only has it streaming! And only until the middle of May. I wonder what's up with *that*?

Edit: And on Amazon, it's "discontinued by mfgr" - guess I'd better get a used copy while I can!

Suppression? Lack of sufficient interest?

7. Yes, but Netflix is streaming only, and only until the middle of May
and Amazon says "discontinued by mfgr." I wonder if there's a story behind this, or just lack of interest?

8. Oh dear.
I *wanted* to like The Corporation (which I rented from Netflix), and I was interested in the information, but I was generally very bored with the presentation. (Which means I don't know if I'm sorry I ordered The Future of Food from Amazon, not being able to rent a DVD of it from Netflix.)

9. Isn't that the one with the standard anti-science disinformation?
GM foods are going to cause another Irish potato famine?

And terminator genes are going to "spread into nature?"

Instead of a big boogie man saying booga booga.

It's also not anti science, it's anti LIFE patenting.

11. i am for labeling
labeling retains consumer choice.

it is fair to business AND the consumer.

food labeling, etc. was EXCELLENT legsilation. unlike so much legislation, it doesn't restrict what companies can market, but empowers consumers with information to make a choice.

win/win

GM foods should be mandatorily labeled as such.

absent any evidence that they are unhealthy (and i have yet to see any credible evidence they are), the choice should be up to the consumer.

i believe the same about organics vs. non-organics, etc.

12. I enjoyed the video
A person needs to know this video is biased....I think that goes without saying.

I think they need to list more of the major players in the biotech industry. They seemed focused mostly on Monsanto and I think that is a big mistake. Even though Monsanto seems to be the company to take all the heat for some reason.....there are major players in this drive to control our food and they seem to slip by under the radar.

It does seem like there should be a way to demand GMO labeling on all our food. I don't know the process, but would be open to suggestion. It seems lots of people complain about it, but no one has an answer....a plan. Is this something National or does it happen State by State? Unfortunately I don't think most people even care.....

It seems simple enough to me. You label the food and let the consumer decide which they prefer. I know the biotech companies say there is no difference in the food......then they say there is a difference and that is why they can patent it......which is it??

I know the film is about educating the public. I seriously want to know if I'm eating GMO products. I want that simple choice.
