New York Teenager Had 'Her Mind Set' on Myrtle Beach Spring Break
Source: Fox News

New York teen Brittanee Drexel had "her mind set" on spring break in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Her mom didn't want her to go, but the strong-willed 17-year-old from Rochester, N.Y., went anyway — now she's missing, and her mom fears the worst.

Brittanee's mom, Dawn Drexel, said her daughter made it to the hotel and kept in touch until last Saturday night. That's when the messages suddenly stopped and the high school junior vanished, seemingly without a trace, she said.

"It's a parent's worst nightmare," said Dawn Drexel. "There's a lot of things that don't add up, and I'm scared that there's the possibility that she's not alive."

Her mom is worried because her daughter suffers from depression, and she's losing hope that she will be found safe. She said Brittanee may have been upset because her mother and stepfather are getting divorced.....

17 at Spring Break? It would've never even crossed my mind at that age.

1. I am very sorry for this family, but does FOX know non-blonde/non-white kids go missing too?
Hope she is found safe and sound.

4. Doesn't look like a real blond...
and I SERIOUSLY doubt her eyes are blue. Looks Jewish to me, but I was raised in that area.

18. "dirty" blonde
not a pejorative - I've heard the term used for the type of hair coloration that's dark on the bottom layers but very light on top where it's exposed to the sun. My sister's hair was like that until she was in her late 30s.

Back to the main point: who lets their minor kids go off unchaperoned like this?

21. NO ONE ever got the memo that non-'beautiful' people go missing, either
the common trend in all the stories is that the vanished girls always look like they could be on the cover of "Barely Legal" or something...

6. CONFIRMED: MISSING WHITE GIRL IS BLOND.
I've got good money that says Nancy Grace is putting her up somewhere for two weeks so that she can broadcast live from Myrtle Beach.

9. Nancy's too busy trashing the Octomom
I watched a few minutes last night--Octomom's nanny was on a 911 call trying to get Gloria Allred to leave the house.

5. What amazes me...
Is that her mom was in touch with her for a few days and knew where she was staying. My parents would've personally dragged me out of that hotel room and sentenced me to hard labor for months.

7. Actually, the mom didn't know she had gone to MB until after
she was missing. The daughter called her mom every day but pretended she was still in NY staying at a friend's house.

8. i would never have done something like this because my mother
instilled such fear in me. Fear of disappointing her and letting her down. Plus I was poor growing up, no money for such antics.

12. I knew there was another reason I never did this
while growing up in NYC. No money. Definitely limits you.

13. What crossed my mind first was, why wasn't it Cancun?
That's where a bunch of kids from my daughter's high school went to party this year.

My second thought was, just another case of a kid walking all over a parent, and the parent allowing it to happen.

Hope things turn out for the best.

14. she's okay.. she ran off with a bunch of bikers and she's partying hard...
I could be wrong, but it's just a vibe I'm getting...

We used to do this in Ft Lauderdale 25 years ago... find a girl or two that seemed out of sorts (depressed, ready to run away, etc) and recruit them into the club. They didn't have to worry about their clothes and stuff at the hotel, we'd buy them all new stuff.... It happens a lot more than you think, all over the Country.

15. I win! I called it on Tuesday that this would be a quick-fix Distraction
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=5551960#5552246

I was wondering when Faux would get its tentacles into The Latest Missing Blonde story.

Seriously: This girl is from my area and her family and friends are just beside themselves with worry. It's not looking good at this point.

20. Seventeen and going a few hundred miles away on Spring Break is a big deal?
As soon as my friends and I were old enough to get drivers licenses we were gone to hot spots all over the Texas gulf coast and into Mexico. Just wasn't a big deal really. The odds of "something bad" happening to you are so low they might as well be non-existant.

22. Well, my 17th birthday was in 1960 ... so the answer is 'yes.'

Living (and going to college) in Detroit, I didn't do Spring Break in Ft. Lauderdale until 1965.
