Arizona BBQ joint sees 40% drop in pulled pork sales due to swine flu fears
BBQ Joint: Swine Flu Keeps Folks from Piggin' Out

Posted May 1st 2009 1:42AM by TMZ Staff

Paris Hilton isn't the only mega-moron who thinks you can get swine flu from eating pork -- we talked to people at a classic BBQ place in Arizona, who pretty much told us the only thing more infectious that S.F. is stupidity.

The folks at Porky's BBQ said their number one seller -- the juicy, tasty, mouth-watering pulled pork -- has dropped in sales by 40 percent since the "epidemic" struck Earth.

They've resorted to telling customers that they "offer BBQ pulled pork without a side of swine."

3. I wouldn't want to eat meat from an animal that may have been sick with the flu.
It's simply unappetizing to think about.

8. No. I hardly ever eat pork, though.
But sometimes I think about what the animal might have been like when alive. I think that's the main reason I eat so little pork.

12. If you eat meat, any meat, you regularly eat animals that were sick
and have often died of those illnesses. This is of course, against the law, but we have seen for decades that our laws are universally ignored and rarely enforced in this industry.

The meat industry is a big source of campaign funds.

BTW, I eat meat.

16. Yes, the thought has crossed my mind that I have eaten sick animals.
But, rational or not, can you see how people won't want order the pork dish because the thought of a sick pig makes them lose their appetite?

Similarly, if I read or hear or any references to fecal matter, dirty diapers, dog poo, etc, while I'm eating, I always stop eating until the reference is out of my mind. It's psychological.

When I lived in Tempe, we were a mile away from Tom's and went there often. Geez, that was 10 years ago, though.

6. The REAL shock of this is that folks are actually thinking about what they eat.
I'm really surprised. People equating "swine flue" with pork...that's epic. All too often it's just "tastes good...don't care" and you can follow the knuckles dragging behind.

9. WHAT? You mean industrial pig confinement might produce disease?
Edited on Fri May-01-09 02:47 AM by Maru Kitteh
I always thought pigs lived in fields of sunshine and clover until a benevolent farmer who really does CARE about his animals quietly and gently dispatched of them so my neighbor could have his bacon mc muffin.

26. If we stop eating pork, the pigs win
Personally I think this swine flu nonsense is nothing more than a media frenzy designed to undermine the pork industry. I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that PETA is behind it all.
