One sunny Saturday afternoon, about ten years ago (I think), I was driving down Constitution Avenue here in DC, and suddenly something appeared on the grass in President's Park, which is on the north side of Constitution, between the White House and the Washington Monument.
Botero sculptures, maybe eight or nine of them, just placed on the grass, right next to the sidewalk, these huge, gorgeous Botero sculptures.
No guard, just small plaques with the title and the date it was complete.
I parked the car (you could still just park a car on Constitution Avenue back then, without having to circle the block for hours), and got out, went over, and spent maybe an hours just looking at them, touching them. I backed up into the Park to get a long-distance view of them. Crossed the street to see what they looked like from the Monument.
Alas, I had no camera with me. But that memory is so vivid in my mind. Most were of women, big beautiful women, and all I could think was "Oh, how this guy loves us! How he loves women!"
An amazing happenstance, my great good luck..........
