A DU Forgiveness Appreciation Thread.
Edited on Thu Apr-30-09 08:53 PM by Mike 03
Rather than appreciate a certain individual, let's express appreciation for how willing our DU colleagues here are here to forgive mistakes that we all (or most of us) have made over the years.

This community is so important to so many of us, and so often we get carried away in our debate and risk offending each other, and it's wrong to strike out personally, and some of us feel deep regret when we step over those bounds, but for the most part, we forgive each other, in my experience.

This is one of the amazing qualities of the people here at Democratic Underground. It seems worth celebrating to me.

So this is not an appreciation of a person, but a concept: The concept of forgiveness, and regret.

I don't think anybody pushes the "concept of forgiveness" further than I do. And I do appreciate it when I get it.

18. MLK, Jr. said, "Forgiveness is not just an occasional act...
...it is a permanent attitude."

Thanks for this, Mike, and let's have more of it, DU!

I would be nowhere in this world if not for the people with an underlying attitude of forgiveness.

I'm in.

If I may quote Alexander Pope here,

"To err is human, to forgive is divine"

This is a very cool idea.

Thanks so much.

38. Too many here seem to be proud of their unforgiveness
and seen to have a noble and self righteous attitude in having an entitlement to nurture bitterness and hatred. An unforgiving attitude along with bitterness and hatred are poisons we employ to hurt someone else and in reality they only hurt ourselves.

The concept of forgiveness and regret is noble and one which I hope may be better grasped, understood, and appreciated as well as applied.

39. Truth. Every single word of your post
Very nicely said.

An unforgiving attitude along with bitterness and hatred are poisons we employ to hurt someone else and in reality they only hurt ourselves.

A very wise friend of mine told me when I was a teenager and I'll never forget: "Hate is a poison that YOU take and expect for someone else to die."
