Is the 'GOP too big to fail'?
The last Republican split was 1912 when TR's progressives left, leaving the ascendancy of insolationists and free marketeers.

Too Big to Fail. At the zenith of the political cycle, there's always talk like this. Witness the chatter of 'Reagan Democrats' in 1982.

Will their paymasters bail them out? Can the base be turned on a pinhead by Fox/Limbaugh et al on 'a new mission from God'? What do you think?

3. I don't think they're too big to fail but rather too arrogant to succeed.
Through fear and manipulation they've managed to shape the debate for a while both internationally and domestically, but the recent election cycles have put the lie to their entire construct -- from voters' very convincing rejection of Rudy 911 Giuliani all the way down to public opinion polls which endorse views diametrically opposite to the GOP's positions on stem cell research, reproductive freedom, the dignity of workers, gay marriage, and so forth.

Lincoln was the snow at the source of this stream but this many miles later, the water is seriously polluted.

For them to rebuild they have to define and to do that they need some meaningful dialogue, which they most certainly are not going to get with Romney and Palin and Jindal and Gingrich and so forth.

There's no incentive in sight for voters to bolt from Obama, who is plainly dedicated and likeable, in favor of the losers and wretches in the Republican Party.
