3. Best wishes to you.
Our five-year-old cat Papa died last Monday. He was five and was eating Hill's Prescription C/D, but we don't think the food had anything to do with his death. But still - this is all so wrong, and definitely they should be held accountable.

4. You do know that Hills Presc. C/D was on the list of contaminated pet food?
Was your kitty tested for the poison and did he have renal failure?

6. I have a feeling the death toll is much higher than we'll ever know.
Two people I know had dogs die very quickly under strange circumstances over the past month, and neither thinks it had anything to do with the food but I do. Both dogs had symptoms that were very similar to this poisoning.

8. The second day I heard about this, with 90 brands being recalled,
I knew this would be huge.

Imagine all the pets that ate those brands.

I'm just hoping that all of them were not poison, otherwise this will be a catastrophy of HUGE proportions!

Simple logic tells me that it is also in the human food supply......we must demand answers from our reps!!

9. I heard it was just the M/D dry formula.
He had an ongoing health problem and his renal tests were all normal.

10. You know, you may be right,
I'm sorry if I am wrong, but I wouldn't rule out any of Hills Prescription.

May I ask what the ongoing health problems/symtoms were, I have had cats all my life, more than 50 years and I'm a bit curious.

We had 3 cats die in the last 2 years, all were older, around 17 years, 2 of them had renal failure. Because of their age, I don't think it was poisoned food.

Your post caught my attention because your kitty was so young. I hope you don't mind me asking.

I'm very sorry for your loss. 2 of our kitties were companion cats and died within a year of each other. It was a horrible time. We will never have them close in age again....it's just too sad.

We still have Scruffy (10yrs.) and we got a 6mth kitten Misty, who is now 1.6 yrs. and the love of our life. She is a big daddy's girl and crazy about my husband and he's nutso about her. Our house is happy again, but this recall thing is making me crazy....

11. Thank you for your words of sympathy.
He had been ill pretty much from birth. He had almost no teeth due to stomatitis (severe periodontal disease), a hernia (repaired) and then developed a terrible case of urinary crystals with - ultimately - a huge calcification at the base of his bladder/top of his urethra. He had emergency surgery on Monday and they couldn't save him. We adopted him when he was about two (he was a rescue cat). We're very sad he died so young, but he had a good life, short at it was.

I've had cats all of my life and now we have three eating California Natural. We adopt hard-to-place cats with health issues. They are all doing well, luckily.

I'm sorry for your losses as well, I know how much it hurts.

I'll never trust this Menu Foods co. again and I'll try my darnedest to never buy anything from them.

on my "buddy" list! I love people like you that do such good work for the kitties.....

I don't have enough time to tell you about all the kitties we have saved in our neighborhood, but hubby has been taking care of a feral colony in San Francisco for about 8 yrs. now.

It's my fault....he thought it was okay to feed some strays on the wharf, since we took care of them when they wandered into our yard or garage. Now.....he is daddy to about 11 cats and works with the Humane Society to spay/nueter the kitties.

He brought home 2 of the females to rest after surgery......never again though.....it took me 1 year to get rid of the fleas....

I hope we talk again soon.....thanks

BTW the feral kitties are fat and very healthy.....

wheat gluten. It is the ONLY Hill's Prescription Diet that has been recalled. C/D is FINE!!!!! C/D HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. Jeebus H. Christ.

Please do not propagate this sort of fearmongering claptrap. Whoever told you this was either deliberately lying, or simply didn't bother to go to any of dozens of websites to find out the truth.

AVMA.org is a great resource. I suggest you check out any rumors there before you go scaring people by spreading falsehoods.

17. kestrel's tone may have been harsh,
Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 12:43 AM by piesRsquare
but it was imperative that the message get through: DO NOT POST "INFORMATION" REGARDING THIS ISSUE WITHOUT CHECKING THE FACTS FIRST.

I put that in all caps because, like kestrel (who's a vet), I (who am a veterinary technician) have spent a horrendous amount of time setting the record straight on DU message boards regarding this issue.

Democratic Underground has well over 100,000 registered members and who knows how many lurkers. Pet owners are panicked right now. Misinformation will spread like wildfire, and it is very, very difficult to counter!

Prescription Diets (like c/d) are exactly that--PRESCRIPTION. Animals on prescription diet are on it out of medical necessity. People changing their pets' diets (those that are on prescription diet) after reading misinformation could have tragic consequences.

If you're not sure of something, please check before you post...!

Just who the fuck does she think she is? I am soooo pissed right now.

I am not in the habit of posting inaccurate info. Mistakes can happen, and it was cleared up right away. Shit...I had concern for the lady I posted to and we cleared it up and had a great conversation.

Kestrel...on the other hand thinks she's the vet police....see's all, know's all.

She better just stay the hell away from me! Her credibility with me is ZERO!

We are not all a bunch of uneducated hillbillies, many of us have college degrees too.

16. Do you happen to sell Hill's Prescpt. in your office, is that why you
Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 12:32 AM by laugle
are freaking out. Calm down....I know you have been very busy lately. Don't make those kinds of accusations...you and I have talked before and I wanted to let you know that the baby food worked great for my cat...he loves it!

You need to understand that people are very concerned and are going to share info, we all try to be accurate. Afterall, you don't know everything going on.

Calling people hysterical, fearmongerer's, liars, etc. is not productive.

I think you need a break. I appreciate what you are trying to do, but don't see the point in attacking other members who are just as concerned as you without the credentials.

Remember, most of us have a family vet we can ask for advice. Also, the internet is full of good info. Don't try to take on the weight of the world on your shoulders, the stress would be enormous.

The real truth is I saw it on the local news and was going to write it down exactly, and I inadvertently got it wrong. I thought it was C/D instead of M/D. The person I posted to, let me know my error and we had a very nice talk. I guess you didn't bother to read the full posts.

You have questioned my motives, now I question yours; do you sell Hills Prescription in your office? Could it be that you are more concerned with profits? I just wanted you to know how it feels. It's not nice or necessary.

Talk about hysterical, what a diatribe! Geez...

Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 12:44 AM by laugle
from Hills Prescription, she doesn't say which one.....are you going to jam that diatribe down her throat too.

You seem to only be reporting based on recall--how do you know if the other Hill Prescription food is okay.
The answer is; you don't!

WHICH BRANDS WILL BE RECALLED TOMORROW THAT WE ARE FEEDING OUR PETS TODAY!!! Again....you don't know!!
