1. An aircraft carrier

costs several million per day to operate for starters. But when your only real product or policy is a photo-op, it's money well spent. Until that is, they're on to you.

Then you have the entourage and transport and lodgings.

The advantage to politicians is that expenses of that nature are spread across a number of departments, making them hard to track.

2. I realize that. The cost for that photo op must have been outrageous.
But I don't remember Fox going nuts over the cost of it like they are about the plane flyover. It was a stupid thing to do, as was the photo-op, but it wasn't like Obama was hanging out the window with a banner.

3. Eventually, it cost Shit-for-Brains his credibility.

It was a major turning point.

5. It cost the troops on the ship a day's liberty
The ship was within swimming distance of San Diego. In fact, they had to turn it so you couldn't see the city in the phony photo-op.

It stayed out in the harbor an extra day so shit-for-brains could have his publicity extravaganza.

6. Was it only one extra day?
I remember they had to reposition the ship so it would look like shit-for-brains had traveled some distance to meet it, and to avoid the embarrassment of the San Diego skyline in the background. I also remember some faint, indistinct rumblings that the crew wasn't happy about being used in this fashion, and having to delay their family reunions, but I thought the delay was more like two or three days. One day is probably right, though.

And naturally, Fox couldn't be bothered with such minutiae whilst going through their orgiastic circle jerk about Bush landing his plane on the deck of the carrier all by himself through enemy fire to deliver an anti-cancer vaccine to save a little girl who would eventually grow up to be bigger than Madonna. But it was all fair and balanced.

12. Maybe it was more
but it was at least one. Yeah, they couldn't let on that he could have reached the carrier in five minutes by rowboat from the Coronado Yacht Club.

7. How about when he fired up Air Force 1 to take that unecessary
trip back to Washington to sign the Schiavo bill when he very easily could have signed it from his pig farm?
