Are the confirmation hearings for Sebelius just a testing ground for Supreme Court vacancies

Bigger fights than Sebelius ahead?

Social conservatives’ last-ditch effort to keep Kathleen Sebelius from becoming secretary of Health and Human Services hasn’t been entirely about her, according to the president of pro-choice group NARAL. Nancy Keenan told Politico: “The attacks by the right wing are, quite frankly, a dress rehearsal for the big dance, which is the Supreme Court vacancies. They are testing their tactics.”

1. Testing their tactics, are they
Well, those tactics are effective soley on Congressional Dems. We the People aren't buying the heifer dust they're selling.

3. Those tactics aren't working on her confirmation either
Looks like she will be confirmed and it hasn't been all that hard.

I did read in my local paper yesterday that Brownback is considering withdrawing his support. He is running for governor in 2010 and is concerned about upsetting his base.

Poor Sam.

2. I've been getting some robocalls concerning her for the past month…
If this is a preview, which I think it is, then it's going to get pretty nasty.

4. How do you think it has been nasty?
From here in Kansas we see silly delays but no credible means of not approving her.

7. I'm in DC and I've been getting recorded messages…
concerning some supposed dirt on Sebelius (which they spell out). They also leave their website. I've received the calls on both my home phone and my business line. The message also mentions President Obama. I don't think this tactic will work against her, but I do think that when it comes to the SC selections it will get nasty.

PS - Sorry for the delay in responding. I have the attention span of a gnat!

6. Bust Their Asses...
Sooner or later the rushpublicans are gonna go off the cliff...they will follow through with a fillibuster. And it'll be the worst tactic they ever tried.

It will shut down the government and just emphasize the "obstructionist" reputation that is killing them in the polls. The longer they read phone books and bibles and grandstand, the lower they will sink. But Harry Reid doesn't have the stones to call their bluff.

Also forcing their hand defuses the "threat"...cause once their folly implodes, so goes the threat of the threat.

Sebelius' nomination is as good a place to draw the line...or the seating of Senator Franken. Beat 'em down so that judicial nominees can be confirmed and Supreme Court nominees can get a fair and timely confirmation.
