A recent report from the Department of Homeland Security is downright "insulting" to veterans, Arizona Sen. John McCain said Monday.

"The last people on earth we need to worry about are our veterans," McCain said. "And by the
way, after the Vietnam War, for years there was this portrayal of the Vietnam veteran as crazed and committing — having committed war crimes. There were all of these problems they were going to have. Studies years later have proven that it's totally false."

1. Although didn't they JUST arrest a marine for having bomb materials in his luggage?

I haven't seen the exact language that has the right wing so inflamed. Anyone have the excerpt? Surely it couldn't have been all veterans.

7. He has to say that. He's facing a challenger in the republican primary
in 2010 for his seat who is a Minuteman. Johnny's got to pander for those votes now, not later.

9. Ironic, considering McCain IS a veteran who succumbed to right-wing extremism.
In recent years, McCain sold his soul to the devil to cuddle up to the Bush regime. And then in the 2008 campaign, he lost his last shred of integrity when he threw over his long-held beliefs in order to court the far-right base of the GOP.

Certainly, I don't mean to say old McNasty is a terrorist like McVeigh, but, yes, he has certainly fallen victim to "right-wing extremism."

McCain needs to lie in the shadows for the next few months. Nothing he says is going to be taken with high regard.

He needs to STFU and show some respect to the Big Man. Obama owes NO ONE an apology for that report.

13. First the report does not "target" vets. It targets extremists who want to recruit vets

Either these people can't read or they are willfully ignorant. I vote for "willfully ignorant" -- and full of false outrage.

14. Better demand the apology from your pal George W. Bush
It was the Bush administration that commissioned this report, which was issued back in 2008. You're a little late to the party, Sen. McCain. And as for the "last people on earth we need to worry about," I'm sorry but veterans take their place behind a looooong list for me. Some of them were even arrested by Sen. McCain's security detail in Minnesota during the Republican National Convention. So Sen. McCain? Screw you, that's what.

22. yeah- I thought so too, especially the Pentagon training against
recruitment.

Why would they need to train against that, if there was no danger????

Come to think of it, weren't one of the DC Snipers a veteran of that war (the Gulf War), too? (Not to mention all the Vietnam vets whose lives were forever changed after that experience, those who ended up on the streets, etc) Either McCain is majorly overlooking these instances and more or he is being extremely selective..

And pointing these out is not "insulting" to veterans. These are real problems that need to be addressed to save lives! (Especially those of the innocent people who had theirs taken in these tragic events). I think McCain is being rather disingenuous here. As a veteran himself, he should know better!

How fitting, considering that the GOP doesn't bother worrying about their wellness.

21. Can we call them the New Nazi party yet?
After all, they are openly and actively recruiting from the American KKK, Nazi and secessionist populations as well as defending them.
