42-Year-Old Says He's 'Not Over It'

FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- A Fort Pierce man who was mistakenly arrested said he's "not over it."

George Charles Barber was arrested last month for failing to appear in court after allegedly committing some burglaries 17 years ago. After spending eight days in jail, Barber was able to prove he wasn't the man police were after.

Authorities said the 42-year-old Barber never knew someone used his name and personal information on the heels of a crime spree in Indian River County in 1992. The suspect is in prison, but for other crimes he has committed.

Indian River County sheriff's spokesman Jeff Luther sais law enforcement arrested the proper person based on the information they had.

Still, Barber said he's "not over it" and wonders if the police will come back for him one day.

2. based on the information they had
Shiiiiiiiit. It's their job to get the correct information. I'd sue the piss out of 'em. And "Barber was able to prove he wasn't the man police were after". Double shiiiiiiit.

6. And how could it take eight days to clear up? Something is grossly wrong here.

3. I don't blame him.
I only spent 8 hours in jail in February for something that happened 18 years ago when I was 10 years old, and I was told back then that I would never have to worry about it. Well 18 years later, guy runs my plate in the middle of the highway while we were still driving, for seemingly no reason and boom, warrant for my arrest. I get booked and held in the luxurious TGK facility here in Miami and it was easily the worst experience of my life and that includes an extensive list of bad experiences.

Fast forward to the end of March and I'm told by my lawyer that the state does not want to prosecute at this time so they're just going to drop it and I'll never have to worry about this again.

I'm sorry you had to go through that.

7. Yup
Even the cops were baffled that this warrant was around and they even called to make sure they wanted to bring me in and they said, "Yeah bring him in." Everyone from the Cops to the prison guards were awe struck about it. Even my lawyer when I first called him was like WTF?

I have to say though the cops were pretty good to me. The prison guards however....
