Frontline tonight. Did anybody watch? Children of the Taliban

Highly recommedned in case you have forgetten how batshit crazy and dangerous the Taliban are.

"I believe in telling the truth," says filmmaker Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy. Over webcam she tells us why she undertook such a dangerous journey in her native Pakistan to document how the Taliban are repressing young girls and recruitIng children to carry out suicide attacks. In this gripping interview, the filmmaker gives an update on some of the characters in her documentary and provides chilling behind-the-scenes details about her interview with a Taliban commander. She also offers field notes, below, from her reporting across Pakistan."-Sharmeen Obadi Chinoy

3. While I think that the Taliban follows insanity...
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 10:38 PM by ASUliberal
I think that these personal videos put a face to the "terrorists" that we always hear about on the news. Instead of fearing those men, I feel true sorrow for the situation that they are in. This is not a matter of men hungry for power, but rather a movement forged by generations of ignorant lies being fed to the masses.

Seeing things like that sometimes make me wonder if we will ever be able to diminish the capabilities of fundamental terrorism (whether that is Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, or any other form). Because, in the end, we aren't really fighting a people. We are fighting an ideology that transcends people.

4. Thanks for the reminder and the link. Have you seen this one yet?
I've posted it a couple of times inside threads recently and haven't got any feedback as of writing, so I'm not sure if anyone's taken a look yet.

Beneath The Veil
A hard hitting documentary with presenter Saira Shah who went undercover prior to 9/11 to find out what the Afghanistan not shown in the media was like under Taliban rule. Strongly recommended documentary for anyone who is interested in what was happening in Taliban run Afghanistan leading up to the 2001 invasion and what the country will very likely descend into again if we just 'pull out': http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4201322772364661561

5. Keep waging an air war against civilians, and you keep empowering the most vicious, reactionary
--misogynistic sociopaths. Does nobody remember the Bush 90% approval rating right after 9/11? Why would you think people in Afghanistan and Pakistan are any different?
