2. I'm 99.999% positive Obama's name will come up.
That's partly why I posted it.

10. Nothing there that DUers don't know.
Gun show loophole.
Paranoid RW nuts buying guns.
Gun lobby pushing fear of Obama.
Poeple interested in AWB and people interested in arming ever citizen.

Fairly standard stuff.

11. It was actually done fairly well...not nearly as awful as I thought it would be.
Leslie fulfilled her assigned role to ridicule and encourage hate for gun owners but it worked about as well as it deserved to.

12. I was surprised they said gun sales
applications were only up 30% over last year. I have been led to believe they had like doubled or tripled. I think the gun dealers exaggerate the numbers hoping to generate even more sales. You think everyone else is buying guns so you have to get one too. I admit I bought a 40 cal. semi-auto myself I really don't have any use for it, I just wanted one while they were still legal to buy. So far I haven't had much luck finding ammo for it.

13. The biggest increases occurred last year.
Edited on Sun Apr-12-09 08:21 PM by benEzra
Also, sales of small- and intermediate-caliber rifles with modern styling certainly doubled or tripled, and handgun sales probably increased significantly, but these were offset to some degree by declines in sales of traditional-looking rifles and shotguns, I suspect.

And yes, ammo prices/availability are currently The Suck. I miss the days of $99/case 7.62x39mm, to be sure...

20. We were warned to stack high and deep

I failed to listen, too.

I was prepared to accept a 10 - 20 % increase in price, but double? holy smokes.

16. Know your subject before spouting foolish rhetoric
Edited on Sun Apr-12-09 08:48 PM by Tejas
No matter race/creed/political affiliation there are new owners entering the field of firearms. Even ranges are buying everything they can just to supply ammo for rental-guns for newbies and prospective firearms buyers.

The ammo shortage is not simply due to hording by chicken-littles, it's by wise consumers that have watched prices increase almost 400% over the last 2 years. A certain caliber that sold for $30 in Jan '07 fetched $80 in July '08 and is selling easily at the present for $110.
And on top of that, Baretta just got a military 9mm contract, doubt 9mm will be flooding the shelves of gander Mountain anytime soon.

Please feel free to correct/argue any points I've made that you think you know about.

21. Over the years, you've used every excuse to protect extreme gun lunatics...
Why would you say anything different now? There is absolutely NO scenario in your mind that would justify even a little gun regulation. You're a lost cause. After this comment, I'll be ignoring you again for about another year. There's no point in trying to reason with a crazy person.

these people are sick, and has a Democratic President ever taken away someone's guns??? A big NO, and if those stupid people realize it was a Republican President who took their guns away it was George during Katrina.

23. Tens of millions of gun owners got burned by the Feinstein non-ban in 1994...
and are not naive enough to believe that Feinstein et al wouldn't like to pass something even worse, like H.R.1022. There's also the concern that ammunition imports from Europe could be cut off the same way Clinton cut off imports from China with a stroke of the pen, and that would probably triple or quadruple the price of some of the most common calibers of rifle ammunition.

So there are indeed rational reasons to hedge one's bets against the unlikely event of new bans or import restrictions. Thankfully, it appears that Obama, unlike Clinton, is NOT bowing to the Third Way/DLC types or the repubs at the Brady Campaign.

28. Not the case
It was the police department of the city of New Orleans that was confiscating weapons. Not the Federal Government.

25. Ugh.. one bad quote in the article..
"That figure < # of NCIS checks > doesn't include Virginia, whose gun shows don't require any background checks."

Private sales between individuals don't require NICS checks in VA, sales from federally licensed dealers to, regardless of location.

27. sort've a johnny-come-lately article but thank you.
As long as the White House website endorses a ban it's still on the table. Even then, if that paragraph disappeared tomorrow our President needs to step up to the plate and say.............

SOMETHING

anything

a few words will do

:)
