Happy Easter (And a verse to contemplate)
Happy Easter to all!

One of the common things discussed at Churches and homes during this day is the resurrection. One thing I think often overlooked though is this one verse:

Luke 24:39 (New International Version)

39Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."
http://bible.cc/luke/24-39.htm - for a link all the different versions of above verse

Note that Jesus did not say "Silly you, ghosts don't exist!" He said he was not one, implying therefore that ghosts did indeed exist (Fundies think ghosts are all demons...).

So there you have it. Jesus believed in ghosts. :)

Hope those who celebrate this day have a joyous one, and those that don't celebrate it ... well I hope your day is good too ;)

1. concept of ghosts is found in many different cultures
Japan has myths of "ghost demons" but I didn't know that Christian fundamentalists thought all ghosts were demonic. Thanks for the information!

2. Basically (from a fundie view):
When you die you either go to heaven or hell, or to paradise to await judgment, or you sleep until judgment day. So if you see a ghost, it can't be of a human.

3. Ah
I know that in Islam we speak of Jinns, or "genies", who dwell on one of the planes a soul travels through in their journey from God to this reality. Jinn and the jinn plane are, as I understand it, dealing with the realm of thoughts and ideas. When we come from God, we "pick up" thoughts and ideas left behind by souls returning to Source--we play around on the jinn plane for a while, then incorporate into bodies here. So the idea that there are ghosts is not surprising--but we see them as a soul sidetracked on their journey. (But then by our tradition Iblis-who the Christians call "Satan" temps mankind not because he is evil but rather because he claims to love God far more than humans ever could and he is attempting to prove this--but all will return to God sooner or later.)
