The thing about Reagan is that the deeper you dig, the more you come to love him. He isn’t an image, he was the real thing, and when someone scrapes for details they don’t find concealed negative insights and dark historical truths, instead they become awed.

I find it to be absolutely mind-boggling that there are so many millions of American citizens who seem normal, who can tie their own shoes and buy their own food and everything, and yet fall for every last bit of right-wing idiocy, no matter how far it is from truth or sense. The Birthers, the Amero, Bachmann's re-ed camps, Beck's Civil War - they swallow all of it right down. Is that good for you?

I guess it's the fact that reality itself just doesn't matter to these folks that has me so fascinated. What is the evolutionary advantage in constructing a false universe in your mind and then living there instead of on Earth? I really, really don't get it.
