Okay, my husband has been bugging me for days to watch snippets of the Correspondent's Dinner. I just did and I didn't find it funny. I found it pathetic. Another indication of total disconnect from reality. Anyone else repulsed rather than amused or entertained?

2. Even more than repulsed by Rove I was repulsed
by David Gregory - which leads me to believe that all these people are actors; how David fakes his disdain when at the WH pressers; bullshit - I would not be caught dead acting like a fool with that frickin snake Rove; I could not appear in the same room with that POS, but hey, these are just guys out for a good time,,,,,right?

I must say I was amazed at the amount of love that KO gave out to Snowjob; he says they are "good friends" - how are you good friends with that scum bag?

I am now firmly of the belief that it's all an act for us the dumshits out here, and they all have a great big fuckin laff at our expense

Don't get me wrong - I believe in "comic relief."

Being able to make a joke, "lighten up" for a minute or two even when things are tough is healthy.

If people have been working all day fighting a forest fire, or saving flood victims, or maybe even conducting intense negotiations to bring peace to the world, they are entitled to take some time off and let their hair down.

If this administration exhibited even an iota of compassion for the many people both at home and abroad that they have hurt, if they gave any indication whatsoever that they actually lost sleep over the deaths and dismemberments occurring in their names, then maybe I'd cut them some slack and say "ok, for a few hours, lets set aside differences and relax." That is what you do with people of good will with whom you have differences of opinion. It is not what you do with these snakes. I cannot find anything even slightly amusing, or endearing, or even human, about them and that tacky performance.

All I could think was "how many got blown up during that performance?"

It was like watching a vulture pull its bloody head out of a carcass and do a soft-shoe. Just creepy.

edit: corrected typos

4. is that last sentence your own imagery? very compelling. very apt, as well.
indescribably vile, those people they are, and ESPECIALLY their enablers in the M$M.

I hope David Gregory is haunted for the rest of his life

5. The correspondents that attend and participate in these dinners
are NO DIFFERENT, imo, than the politicians who attend parties sponsored by lobbyists. They are being bought and paid for by the administrations for future use and we have seen how very well these "gifts" have paid off, especially for the bush admin.

Those in attendance, by coincidence, don't do hard-nose reporting on the facts, they regurgitate the bush admin propaganda.

For administrations, it is money well spent. For the media, it only adds to the belief they are available to the highest bidder.

6. Truly awful
but nothing new. Recall the hilarious "Looking for WMD under my desk" bit and the "ask my dog about foreign policy" gag from years past. Just vile, that anyone would think that kind of crap was funny during a war.

9. ironic, isn't it
that they use "during wartime" and "after 9/11" to justify every damned thing they want to do, but can't recognize basic human decency

think of the families who got "the word" this week seeing that, or who have maimed loved ones hanging on by a thread, faces burned off, limbs missing...
