Tonight I made a salad grown totally in my own garden......
.... my first ever. Grown exclusively in Containers on my patio. (The Blue jays got 2 of my biggest tomatoes before I could get to them... but that's OK)

Arugula
Leaf Lettuce
Spring Onions
Beef Stake Tomato
Parsley
Cilantro
Yellow peppers

Olive oil and red wine vinaigrette dressing with Tony Charchere's seasoning. Yumm......

5. That sounds great!
My hubby grows parsley in our little garden. My dream is to one day do a "Nigella" and just rip stuff out of the ground and toss it onto my pasta...

19. Congrats
Bet nothing ever taste so good.

Here are two recommendations for your tomatoes - pick them as soon as they are full (and let them ripe in a basket) or buy some fine mesh and cover the bushes.

I share food with the birds but not my tomatoes. :D

23. Now that is something to celebrate.
But I prefer the Roma tomatos...when they are right off the vine they make a delicious sandwich with a little pepper on them.

31. That sounds great i am going to try it soon.
But instead of blanching the tomatoes have you ever tried roasting them instead?
I do it over a gas flame on the stove...you roast them until the skin starts to turn black and the skin will peal off nicely...I do the same to peppers and chillies and it gives a nice flavor that I like.
A great blog by the way and I liked the pit roasting idea too.

32. You could roast the tomatoes, I'm sure.
Blanching is easy, though. The pit roasting thing is great, too. I'm glad I have a pit now, and will use it once a year to feed a crowd.

And the farm pond's still iced over. All I've got are tomato seedlings in my house.

I looked and found some escarole (endive) still growing even through the winter. I plan on letting to go to seed for this falls planting. Its great with white beans or in chicken soup, etc.

33. I can't wait for a decent salad so I'm as jealous as I can be.
I've got a bunch of lettuce and spinach starting in trays under grow lights so I can get the earliest possible greens from the garden when it gets a little warmer out.
