Even here in Herbert Hoover’s home state, we didn’t buy that hogwash in 1932 when Franklin D. Roosevelt swamped our native son by 58 percent to 40 percent. And we certainly knew that the New Deal was accomplishing positive changes when we voted for F.D.R. in 1936 by 54 percent to 43 percent over Alf Landon from nearby Kansas.

...

What the revisionists have done, Milton Friedman included, is provide ideological cover for a moribund political party. Mr. Friedman’s own place in the history books will rest upon how the chroniclers portray his role in the hypercapitalist free fall of the early 21st century.
