Planned Home Guard militia training in Geauga County prompts concerns from neighbors


Amid a thicket of confusion and conflicting information, a small militia group is trying to take root in Geauga County.

The Geauga County Home Guard says it is associated with the Ohio Defense Force and had planned to host training exercises for the force's units from around the state, beginning April 17. The Ohio Defense Force is a militia formed 10 years ago to help local authorities during emergencies, according to a spokesman.

The training plans were scrapped Wednesday amid outcries from residents worried about live-fire exercises in their heavily wooded neighborhood nestled alongside the Geauga Park District's Swine Creek Reservation in Middlefield Township.

The article goes on to say the members claimed the Geauga County Sheriff endorsed the group. He hasn't and wouldn't...he never heard of them.

Sounds like a bunch of Limbaugh/Beck listeners who probably hate the fact that one of "those people" was elected to be the President.

They say they're not "anti-government".. . but only inasmuch as they're not anarchists. In other words, they're not against the idea of government, per se..

Anyone that the Southern Law Center is tracking is suspect in my book.

4. Good! This is one of our nation's oldest traditions.

I am wholly supportive of this as long as they're:

A) Well-regulated (ie. well-trained)
B) Organize with the express purpose of supporting and defending the Constitution
