1. 2 step fix
Run the Norton Removal Tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Install Avast free home edition: http://www.avast.com

11. Avast is great stuff.
I'm running avast with search and destroy, and malwarebytes for back up and for those pesky things that slip thru all of this, re-animator kicks ass.

Been running very clean since I started using these programs regularly.

May I also suggest 'Major Geeks' for tech help. That's where I learned about these great programs and personal help is availible on their forums.

6. Stop, how many hours do you want him to spend?
One of these days you folks will figure out LIEnuts isn't for everyone, and one last question, if it's so good, why isn't it used in schools?

5. Norton 360, the worst of their products
Edited on Sat Apr-04-09 09:21 PM by DainBramaged
Antivirus 2009 the best, but AVG or Avast free versions simpler and very good. Add SUperAntispyawre and A-squared (both free), and you have a complete protection suite. Add auslogistics disk defrag and your done.
http://auslogistics-disk-defrag.qarchive.org/

If you understand what you are doing:
Go into safe mode, delete the files, run Ccleaner to fix the errors, go into regedit and delete the Norton/Symantic entries.

7. I've had no problems with it. installed just fine, runs just fine and
seems to have less resource impacts on performance than the previous version I ran. I had more problems with the last Norton product I ran.

8. Use Eset
Much smaller footprint. Far less intrusive. Not a target of "Look What I Did" hackers. Cheaper, but by no means free. Once installed you do **nothing** and are completely unaware of its presence; no inconvenient scans, no being pressed to update this or that.

9. Screw Norton. I had several problems like this with Norton.

Switched to Bit Defender several years ago. I use my computer a lot. No problems. Life is good.

Also "downgraded" from Vista to XP.

Vista is a POS and never should have been foisted off on an unsuspecting public.
