Although we should never discount the capacity of human beings to exhibit stupid, petty, egotistical, visionless, community-destroying behavior. And sometimes it's just exhaustion. So much evil perpetrated by the rich and powerful, not enough time in the day, the week, the month, the years, to remedy it. People get tired. And, above all, they begin to think that it's all up to them--that countering this colossal evil is a one-man or one-woman project. Bad mistake. Easy to make. Especially easy for the most passionately committed people to make.
This country and this democracy cannot be saved by one person. It is and must be a collective effort. That's what democracy is all about. Not "knights in shining armor." Not some presidential candidate who will put it all right. Not a single activist or "great leader." The collective consciousness of American democracy, and of the true values and goals of the American people, are what need to be aroused and strengthened. And an entity like the Peace House in Crawford can help that process--and has helped it. What a noble enterprise! But it is just one stirling effort among many. And if it goes down--to petty or exhausted in-fighting (or to devilish moles)--the inspiration of American Revolution II will arise somewhere else. The people there should take a vacation. Really. Take a break. Give it up, if they can't keep the place together. Go do something else. Seek refreshment and renewal. Our democracy was not destroyed in a day, and it is not going to be restored in a day. This is a lo-o-o-ong struggle we are engaged in. And, despite the constant crisis and horror of war, we must remain steadfast in RESTORING the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. Democracy is the ONLY remedy.
Blessings upon the people of Peace House! Profound thanks to you for all your work! Be well, all of you! Be at peace! Look at the opinion polls, my dears! It may be that your part of it is over now, that your work is done, and that it is now up to others, and to the collective consciousness of the American people, to end war and begin the peace.
