so how many ways is my company breaking the law
This is the same company where a Friend of mine was killed a few months ago because they had a guard not right on a machine and that regularly puts you in bad spots.

Anyways we are waiting on what is going down with card check so for now union work is on hold.We provide roof bolts and supports for underground coal mines just so you know.

TODAY they were passing around copies of a letter headed *to my senator or representative* giving this spew about how renewable energy will destroy the coal industry and asking for reps to send you a copy of how they stand on :

renewable energy
Clean coal
corporate taxes

And on page two all it said was:

*how do you feel about the following as alternatives

Employee retention credits for corporations

Lowering corporate taxes

They were going through the plant telling people they HAD TO sign one of these papers so they could send them in.I refused and just stared at my boss until he walked away.

They won't let me near this paper now but I'm gonna call a buddy and get his later so I can scan and save it

Just HOW MANY laws are they breaking doing this?

1. I'm no labor lawyer,
but if I were you, I'd call whatever union might represent you and tell them about it.

I'd also tell your NLRB office - wherever it is.

And I'd sure as hell notify my Congressman about this.

Damn, kid. Good luck to you. And kudos for the stare-down.

Here's to you!

2. I've got a union rep on speed dial
we've been talking. If you were here the night my buddy died I pretty much lost it and some kind local DU'ers got me a contact to a union rep here local.

His thought is to wait and see on card check. This company wont heistate to muscle people over unionization so we are waiting for now.

It's one hell of a shop :)

3. "renewable energy will destroy the coal industry..."
although the coal industry could destroy the planet.
but that doesn't matter- as long as OUR CURRENT bottom-line is threatened...

this is why our species doesn't stand a CHANCE of surviving global-climate-change. and why we don't deserve to.

short-sighted, greedy and selfish. the hallmarks of conservatism- they've figured out how to make a bunch of bucks under the current system- and will fight like hell to keep the status quo in place as long as possible. which is why they are so damn GOOD at stifling even the smallest amount of progress.

also- i hope you realize that i don't mean you, and my condolences on your murdered friend.

4. I know you dont mean me
it's a hell of a shop and a hell of an industry.

I've heard from friends who work in mines that they are being asked to sign similar stuff.

It's one hell of an industry.

... can shift easily enough to making bolts and supports for large solar panels and wind turbines.

6. Unless they take an adverse employment action against non-signers, none at all.
You should let the union rep know, but they're not breaking any laws unless they're taking adverse employment actions against non-signers.
