Lou Dobbs laments the lack of "European" immigrant-wannabees
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 05:57 PM by SoCalDem
Here's a clue, Lou..

"European" white people don't want to move here and become citizens because:

they like the higher wages in Old Europe
they like the socialized health care
they like the liberal paid vacations there
they like the guaranteed old age benefits
they like their union jobs
they like the good public transportation
they like the free (or nearly free) university opportunities
they like the "redundancy"/unemployment benefits

even though years of destructive political leaders have tried to ruin their systems, they know they still have a better chance there.. and with the EU in place, they can come and go freely throughout most of Old Europe..

What could they expect here?

Not as much as they have now..

America is a magnet to desperate people...that's why we don't get as many "Europeans" these days..

When we finally awaken and see the light, we might be able to change things so that not only the truly desperate will come here, but until that happens, things will not change.

2. Hell, the stupid among us try so hard to be so unlike the EU it's funny because they are always
voting against their own best interests. Does it make sense to be willing to pay taxes to rebuild schools and infrastructure and bring democracy to Iraq all the will supporting people who are destroying democracy here and refuse to build schools and infrastructure here?

3. At this point...
I'm mad as hell at my ancestors for ever leaving the foggy banks of Great Britain!

All the Brits I've ever discussed this stuff with started out complaining about the wait for a doctor or how they can only make 80% "on the dole" when unemployed... and after I tell them what's what here, they went home waving the Union Jack!

they WANT to be there.. They may come here to vacation, but they don't want to LIVE here..

26. I guess that's right
As much as I love your country for vacation - and I have been to the USA twice in the last six month - I would never ever think about moving there. I lived in Germany and France, and yes, we have a lot of trouble here as well. But it's still better than what's going on in your country right now. My daughter loved her year as an exchange high-school student in California but for college she prefers to stay in Europe and will go to the UK this fall.

Projection EU 2007 = 13,840,833
Projection USA 2007 = 12,980,000

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_the_European_Union

The graph I showed comes from another source than the original article

anyway even with similar growth, the working conditions (health etc..) are far better in the EU than in the US. So why should people move to the US ? Besides there is very little coloured emigration from the EU to the US for mainly two reasons. The coloured people are in a minority in Europe (maybe 6-7%) and concentrated in areas with the highest welfare (UK, France, Spain, Italy).

tO be fair the blog (http://www.eurotrib.com/) which is my source quotes the following :

"International comparisons of economic growth also rely on exchange rates.
In the last 5 years, Europe was not the growth-centre of the world and the
strength of the euro probably depressed some European exports. But the
EU market nevertheless added nearly €1.5 trillion to its value between 2001
and 2006. Because the euro increased in value, this expansion amounts to
US$6 trillion.
In comparison, the USA added US$3 trillion, China and India
together added US$2 trillion and Japan added less than US$0.3 trillion over
the same period."

so much of the difference has to do with exchange rates, thus the difference in size of the bars.

9. Well said. Did you send him that? Only the desperate come in large numbers...
When the ancestors of today's Euro-Americans came here it was in steerage or even in coffin-ships, because conditions at home were awful. Persecution, starvation, pogroms, illiteracy, continuous warfare -- "lack of opportunity" doesn't even begin to cover it.

Why the heck would modern Europeans bother?

It's Mexicans and other Latin Americans who are experiencing the kind of desperation that drives mass numbers to leave home.

Silly Lou.

10. Wait, I thought he only cared
about illegal immigration, not where immigrants were from? So why is he suddenly bemoaning the lack of white immigrants? Because that's what he really cared about all along. Dobb's hatred of immigrants is based on a racist fear & hostility toward anyone with a different skin color. And he straight-up admitted it.

12. Yep.. he let some of the "code" slip..
to republicans/reactionaries:

illegal immigrant = Mexican/dark skinned
crime/criminal = black
Islamo-fascist = arabic descent
family values = white, male, 50's sitcom mentality
pro-life = women who "know their place"
right-to-work = right to pay shitty wages, and fire at will
state's rights = right to ignore what the rest of the country thinks or what's legal
Christian = right to belittle anyone who is NOT

he would not even "see" the Russians...because they "look like us"..

he's a racist..through and through, and has found a clever ruse to disguise it.. If someone defends the "immigrants", they are supporting "illegal activities" and are not to be trusted..

It's the same technique they used to flip the abortion issue. By claiming the "pro-life' angle, anyone who opposes them, becomes "anti-life"..:grr:

and our leaders LET them claim these stances..

19. West Europeans can expect lower standard of living and less political freedom here.
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 06:17 PM by Selatius
That's what they can expect. There is less investment in health care, public infrastructure, and public education. There is very little mass transit but a lot of roads with a lot of gridlock.

There is less political freedom in the American system because they would find they can only choose one of two parties, and if they voted for a third party, they would be blamed for "Naderating" the vote, and they would find the US government under Bush is trampling freedoms.

Also, if I'm an East European or a Russian, why travel to the US when the EU is just around the corner?

Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 10:13 PM by SoCalDem
but he's just a MONEY guy.. His old show (before this one) was a finance show. He's all about making money..but underneath that, he's still a racist.

he would not mind
illegals" one bit, if they were all 20 yr old males who were kept under lock and key when they were not mowing his lawn or rotating his tires...BUT what boils his bile is when they DARE to get married and have babies..

It's about the FREEEEEEE services they get.. He KNOWS they are not "taking jobs from Americans".. Not many people are lining up to trim palm tree fronds, or to pick lettuce or to plant strawberries.

poor ole Lou is probably quite conflicted.. The BIG GUYS "need" the semi-slave labor to keep their profits high, but dammit, those "slave-laborers" sometimes want a family and they want to move up that ladder... the ladder that's plainly marked (in Lou's eyes) "Whites Only"

33. I have to call bullshit on one part of your post.
You state that "Not many people are lining up to trim palm tree fronds, or to pick lettuce or to plant strawberries". I contend that's because the current greedy-ass employers pay only slave wages. American citizens would do these jobs if they paid fair wages. This, of course, is not the immigrants fault, but the employer's.

34. Bullshit is such a harsh word.. I agree with you !
:)

The employers are the PROBLEM

I agree wholeheartedly.

I favor every employer having to pay a $10K "deposit" for each employee hired.

If the employee passes muster (paper-wise), the deposit is refunded..If it does NOT, his business is CONFISCATED, and he is jailed (THE BOSS) for 1 year.

Drug dealers get their stuff confiscated and they go to jail.

Why is human "trafficking" not punished equally ?

:hi:
